Welcome to Aljoori newsletter

Here you will find much information about everything that is happening at Al Joori. In our news letter we will give evidence of all the amazing things that occur in our school that help support your Childs education. Here at Al joori we aim for every child to make accelerated progress and to access an education that will help them succeed throughout their lives.

Our committment

In Al joori we focus of ways to improve many aspects of our school. Education is forever changing ,and so we work had to adapt and develop so we can continue a course of action that ensures our children receive the best education.

Through our school improvement plan(SIP) we can see clearly what aspects we need to improve and develop. Currently our focus is on 3 details that we know once developed with support our children in their education.

Behavior management - To ensure a safe and happy environment for our children.

Cross curricular studies - establishing patterns of information between different academic subjects.

Reading and writing - Implement strategies to ensure accelerated progress in reading and writing in both English and Arabic.

All of the above will be explained in detail and examples will be shared with you all.

Cross curricular studies at Al Joori

What are Cross Curricular studies in Education?

Here at Al Joori we have been working hard to show the importance of cross curricular studies.

Cross curricular studies establishes patterns of information between different academic subjects. It offers a creative way to develop children's understanding while learning through interconnected topics.

Working together

It is important during cross curricular studies that we work together. Taking terms and working as a team is important to the family here at Al Joori.

Nearly finished

Combining the subjects or Art and PE showed the children that there are links in education through different subjects.

English, Math and science can be cross curricular too

In Grade one this term we are aiming at combining each subject and deliver a common theme. In Science this term we are learning about the sky both in the day time and night. We will learning about time, space seasonal patterns and climates.

We will link this to English by sharing different stories with the children that link to the topics in science, stories such as how to catch a star and say, can you say what's the weather today.

We will furthermore link Math to Science and English by learning about the time - days of the week, hours in the day and how to read by digital and analog clocks.

Enhancing reading and writing skills

One of the main improvements Al joori aim to make is enhancing our children's ability to read and write in both Arabic and English.

We have implemented many initiatives to ensure our children made progress in both of these areas,. Our aim is to offer a stable foundation for all children in from KG1 to Grade 1 in reading and writing skills.

Daily morning task activities

Morning Task Activity (Before the start of the integrated English, Math & Science Lesson) or during Free Choice Centre Time- students are encouraged to choose books to look at, read and enjoy. Looking at pictures to support understanding, identifying letters and Sights Words and next step - Learn to Reading.

Whole class carpet session - Students learn to write their name, write letters, and sight words. Numbers & shapes.

Look at the progress so far.

Theme- Earth & Space -Sub-Theme “Exploring the Sea”. Writing Task – Teacher Focused. Student was able to use her phonetical knowledge (sound out letters within each word) & write independently. She was also supported, if needed with Song of Sounds Picture/Letter mat to write animal name & draw pictures.

Behavior management strategies.

Here at Al Joori we pride ourselves in the wonderful behavior of our children. We have many different behavior strategies in place to ensure our children show exemplar behavior in all that they do.

The main way we ensure good behavior is through positive reinforcement. Here at Al joori we believe that children should be rewarded for good behavior. We also believe that all children should be able to work towards an achievable goal and should be rewarded for it.

Star of the week

Every week on a Thursday each teacher rewards a child with the star of the week.

For all grades

The teachers pick a children for each subject and class to receive the rewards. Children are chosen for may different reasons such as: improvements, good behavior, attainment and setting a good example.

Everyone can win

All the children are considered for the rewards and will receive a certificate at some point in the academic year.

In addition to whole school initiatives for rewards behavior through positive reinforcements we also reward in class, in different ways.

The Marble Jar

This is a whole class effort. In grade one children are encouraged to work together to fill up their class marble Jar. Once the Jar is full the whole class receives a reward. The first rewards that was given was for the class to watch a movie and get juice and popcorn. The children loved this and it encouraged collaboration and team work.

Reward chart

Each class has a reward chart, Once each child earns 10 points they are able to choose a small prize out of the prize box. This is an effective way for children to set and reach their own goals and has proven very effective.

A huge congratulations !!!!!!!

This week 7 children from the grade 1 classes we involved in an Arabic reading competition. We are very proud of all the children that participated and the results were absolutely amazing.

From the 7 children that attended we were rewarded with a 1st, 2nd and 4th position. How amazing is this?

Teamwork makes the dream work

A massive well done to both our Grade 1 Arabic teachers for their dedication to our children. They work hard to provide the best education for our children and as you can see the hard work has paid off.

KG 2 English weekly planning - week 4

Examplar lessons

Here at Al joori we pride ourselves at the standard of which our teachers can deliver a lesson. We offer our children exciting, fun, reflective and interactive lessons. Our amazing lessons start with detailed planning, a teachers 'road map' that ensures the teacher takes particular steps to ensure a successful lesson. Here we will show you explicitly the structure of our lessons so you can observe the work and dedication that is needed to teach to such a high standard.

How do we introduce our lessons at Aljoori?

For each lesson we ensure that is introduced in a specific way. All children are settled quickly and are given a morning activity to complete. Morning activities are given daily to children in KG1, KG2 and grade 1. Examples of activities are name writing, Letter formation, cvc words also math activities. All morning activities are differentiated to ensure all children's needs are being met.

Once the children have completed this task there is then a review of the week. This ensure that children are given the opportunity to revise what they have been learning. This is very important as reviewing provides a solid and critical summary of a well defined area.

Once the review has taken place the lesson objectives are shared with the children - with simplified language to ensure the children are able to understand.

Learning centers

After the carpet session is completed children are lead away to their focused activities. Again these activities are differentiated to ensure each child works to their own SMART target/ next step. The main idea of differentiation is to lift the performance and attainment of all students, including those that are behind and high achievers. Daily differentiated activities help to guarantee that gaps in individual children's knowledge can be filled and children can be supported to reach their full potential.

D is for dinosaur

Each week the children in KG learn a new sound. In Al Joori we find create ways to teach the sound. We make the activities fun and interactive helping to make certain the children will retain each sound they have learnt.

I can do this by myself

In addition to teacher led activities children are encouraged to take responsibility of their own learning. Each activity is explained during carpet time and then the children are encouraged to complete it independently. As you can see our children are more than capable and the results are fantastic.

Writing activity

All our writing activities are differentiated to makes sure all children can access the learning objective. For each writing task the support given is changed slightly. Some children will have the support of the teacher, who will scaffold how to write. Some children are given a sound mat or word mat. These are tables of words, sounds and high frequency words which the children are able to use to write. Other children are expected to work independently by using their phonetic knowledge to write CVC words. HF words and phonetically plausible words.

We have to finish? How do we do this?

At the end of each lesson , in every subject the teacher designates time for the plenary. During this time the children of given the opportunity to discuss what happened in the lesson. A plenary can vary and can be a useful time for the teacher to assess whether the children have met the learning objective. This can be done through teacher judgement, peer assessment and self assessment.

A plenary gives the teacher the opportunity to assess the whole class at once.
