NBHS FCCLA attends Fall Leadership Conference on October 23rd
Every day the news is filled with negative stories of what teenage youth are doing. Yet, every day we also have thousands of young people who are doing great and positive things. The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recognize that teens can play an essential role in improving the lives of families, schools, and communities. Given our vast network of established chapters in schools, FCCLA provides a tremendous vehicle for young people to take on projects and activities in all areas of life. From youth violence to financial fitness and healthy lifestyles, FCCLA members are tackling issues that not only affect the world today but their future also.
Students from New Berlin High School are doing positive things and making a difference in their schools and communities. FCCLA members from New Berlin participated in the Illinois FCCLA Fall Leadership Meeting held on October 23, 2023. The one-day conference was held at the Northfield Inn and Conference Center in Springfield, IL.
The students who attended the annual Fall Leadership Meeting in Springfield had the opportunity to attend an array of workshops. Some of the breakout sessions included were self-defense, 10 things I wish I knew in high school, teambuilding, exploring career paths, and stepping into a leadership role. Mr. Garrett LeVault of Springfield, IL provided the keynote address. He shared that taking the risk to be a leader can be scary but the reward is worth it. Attendees also were given information about this year’s Illinois FCCLA community service project for St. Jude Hospital. Each school is encouraged to participate by creating their own local project for the hospital.

Nervous System Assembly to by held Monday, November 20th
Amanda Thomas is a Certified Nervous System Coach and Speaker, helping children and teens reduce stress and increase performance through nervous system regulation. She has created a R.I.S.E. Program and will be presenting to our district.
She believes that through educating our youth on simple habits and balance exercises that support nervous system health, they will be equipped to reduce the mental, emotional, and physical effects of stress - FAST! This leads to greater self-awareness, clarity, and confidence to perform at their best.
We are looking forward to having her here to speak to our students!

Help!!! My student is struggling!!!
If your child is at-risk for failing or failing a class, there is still plenty of time to turn things around! High school students earn credits based on their semester grade using this formula: 40% of their Q1 grade + 40% of their Q2 grade + 20% of their Semester Exam grade.
So, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the academic supports we have in place for students that are struggling.
8th Hour Advisory Tutoring – Our National Honor Society students offer peer tutoring from during Advisory. Please contact your child's teacher, Mr. Viola, or me and we will get them signed up for tutoring!
After School Support –There is a staff member available to help your child from 3:30-4:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with homework. Please contact me if you want your child to take advantage of this support.
HW/Lunch Detention – Students that are missing several assignments or major projects may be assigned to a homework lunch detention until they have all missing work completed and are passing all of their classes.
- High School HW Advisory Academic Support– High school students may be assigned to a homework advisory detention until they have all missing work completed and are passing all of their classes.
