GPS celebrates one month of school!
In a school year unlike any other, GPS is proud of its students and staff for their commitment to health and safety, and for excelling at new approaches to learning, including social distancing, remote school and live streaming. We are also so grateful for our community partners, including our GPS parents, PTAC and PTA members, Greenwich Police Department, Greenwich Alliance for Education and many more!
Greenwich High School Students Recognized for PSAT Performance
Thirteen Greenwich High School students have been recognized in the 2021 National Merit® Scholarship Program as Program Semifinalists and thirty-six GHS students have been recognized as Commended Students.The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships, based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) scores.
Greenwich High School Principal Mr. Ralph Mayo shared, "This is an impressive, national designation and we are so proud of these students. Their accomplishments are a great example of the academic achievements that our students are capable of, due to their hard work and determination, with the support and guidance of a best in class teaching staff. We are all cheering them on for further advancement in this program."

Welcome these GPS Staff Members to their new roles!
Cindy Boucard, Leave Replacement Assistant Principal, Parkway School
Ms. Cindy Boucard was named Leave Replacement Assistant Principal for Parkway School. Ms. Boucard will hold this leave replacement position through at least December for Mr. Jeffrey Libby. Most recently, Ms. Boucard held the role of Special Education Teacher for New Lebanon School. In this role as Assistant Principal, Ms. Boucard will support supervision and evaluation of staff, facilitation of the special education process, maintaining a safe and welcoming school climate, and advocating on behalf of all students. Andrew Byrne, Folsom House Administrator at GHS
Greenwich High School Headmaster Mr. Ralph Mayo has appointed Mr. Andrew Byrne as Folsom House Administrator and Mathematics Program Coordinator at Greenwich High School. Most recently, Mr. Byrne held the role of Director of Human Resources at the United Nations International School in New York City and returned to Greenwich Public Schools to replace Ms. Dana Tulotta who recently accepted the role of Assistant Headmaster. In this role, Mr. Byrne will be responsible for the social, emotional and academic needs of Folsom House students, oversight of Folsom House staff, curriculum and instructional practices for the Mathematics Program and more. Lindsey Eisenstein, Assistant Principal, New Lebanon School
Ms. Lindsey Eisenstein was named Assistant Principal of New Lebanon School. Most recently, Ms. Eisenstein held the roles of Advanced Learning Program Teacher and Math Interventionist at Hamilton Avenue School. She replaced Ms. Klara Monaco who recently accepted the role of Principal at Glenville School. In this role of Assistant Principal, Ms. Eisenstein will support the New Lebanon School's community with supervision and evaluation of staff, facilitation of the special education process, maintaining a safe and welcoming school climate, and advocating on behalf of all students. Mr. Matthew Hartigan was named Interim Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Administrator for Greenwich High School for the 2020-2021 school year. In this role at GHS, Mr. Hartigan will be responsible for the PPT/IEP process, supporting students within the Academic Lab classes, RTI/SAT process to ensure consistent application of interventions and data collection, social and emotional learning, supporting at risk students, and collaboration with GHS Leadership, including the Principal, Assistant Deans, Director of Student Life and Director of Guidance, on various programs and student activities. Most recently, Mr. Hartigan served as the Interim Special Education Program Administrator for the District and a Special Education/Resource Room Teacher at Greenwich High School. Klara Monaco, Principal Glenville School
Ms. Klara Monaco was named Principal of Glenville School. Previously, Ms. Monaco held the role of Assistant Principal at New Lebanon School and she replaces Mr. Marc D'Amico who recently accepted the role of Director of Curriculum for K-8 and Head of K-5 Leadership for the GPS District. Ms. Monaco will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations and oversight for Glenville School students and staff. Read the full announcement.
Thomas Pereira, Dean of Student Life, Greenwich High School
Mr. Thomas Pereira was named Dean of Student Life for Greenwich High School, effective today. In this role at GHS, Mr. Pereira will be responsible for the administration and application of all school disciplinary policies and procedures, working proactively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and will supervise and conduct investigations of major disciplinary infractions for each of the five houses; in addition, he will supervise and collaborate with each of the five Assistant Deans to develop programs and activities to promote a positive school climate and culture for students and staff. Most recently, Mr. Pereira served as Dean of Students for Westhill High School in Stamford, CT. Read the full announcement.
Project Updates
The Greenwich High School Soil Remediation Project recently completed the Phase I cleanup focused on the northernmost athletic fields and several small areas on the Greenwich High School property and allowed for renovation of Athletic Fields 6 and 7.
GHS Cardinal Stadium
Cardinal Stadium plans were approved through Planning and Zoning and the demolition of the old bleachers will take place after the GHS Fall sports season.
Western Middle School Fields
GPS consultant Langan is working with the voluntary remediation action plan and is continuing to conduct testing and prepare a plan for the removal of soil.
Feasibility Studies
Julian Curtiss School and Old Greenwich School Feasibility Studies will be on the Board of Education's agenda in October.
Greenwich High School Entranceway
The GHS Security Entrance Project is currently with the Office of the First Selectman to begin the process of the formulation of a Building Committee.
Hamilton Avenue School Field
Hamilton Avenue School's field project is on schedule and, once completed, will provide a level playing field for the students.
