You may have seen on our facebook page, students receiving Positive Office Referrals and wondered what that is about. Here's the scoop.
We noticed a large number of students that were a little "uncertain" about coming to the office, even if their teacher sent them on an errand. They knew their parents had told them that if they went to the office they were going to be in big trouble! There's nothing wrong with a healthy fear of being in trouble; however, we wanted to eliminate some of the stigma of coming to the office. Yes, students still receive discipline referrals for poor choices in behavior on our campus, but we don't want that to be our only focus! We also want to celebrate the ones that make good choices! So, this year, we have implemented Positive Office Referrals.
Teachers and staff can send a Positive Office Referral for a student when they see students going above and beyond on our campus. This can be for working hard on academics, excelling on an assignment, lending a helping hand, helping keep our campus safe and clean, etc. When students receive a Positive Office Referral, they are celebrated in the office with a chant, a treat, and also presented a Principal's Pride Award by Mrs. English.
Our hope is that by shedding some light on positive behaviors it will promote and encourage more positive behavior! Plus, we have some pretty amazing kids, and they deserve the recognition!!
