Wootton Safety Week
Safety and security are critically important at Wootton High School. During Pre-Service Week, all staff at our school received annual training to share expectations about safety measures and procedures. This school year, Ms. Stephanie Labbe, Assistant Principal, is the identified lead for the school's safety plan. New this year: Wootton will participate in an approach called Safety Week. During the week of September 18th, we are enhancing our focus of safety by participating in many required drills. Please find the scheduled drills.
Monday (9/18): Directed Evacuation
Tuesday (9/19): Combination Shelter-in-Place and Lockdown
Wednesday (9/20): Severe Weather/Drop, Cover, Hold
Thursday (9/21): Fire Evacuation & Reverse Evacuation
Friday (9/22): NO DRILL, Early Release
Friday, September 22, 2023 - Wellness Day and Tie Dye Event!
This upcoming Friday, September 22nd, is an early release day schedule that will now be a wellness day, including the class planning tie-dye event. There will be no formal classes this day, and instead, the day will be broken up into two different blocks where students will choose between different options, including tie-dying the white shirt that they purchased. Attendance will be taken in the morning, before the day begins. Spirit shirt sales are now over, but students did not need to purchase a white class shirt to participate in the day. Instead of tie-dyeing there will be alternative options to tie-dyeing include a movie, a card writing for SSL hours, crafts, playing cards, board games, indoor sports, lawn games, and a study hall. The schedule for the day is linked below. Come and enjoy a fun day at Wootton!
Please reach out to Keith Schwartz (Keith_A_Schwartz@mcpsmd.org) if you have any questions!

New Information on COVID-19 Outbreak Measures
MAP Testing Information
We will be administering the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment to serve as our fall diagnostic for students. The diagnostic assessment is designed to provide teachers, students and parents with an accurate assessment of what a child knows and needs to learn. All students in grade 9 English will take the MAP Growth Reading (MAP-R). All ninth grade students in Algebra 1 will take the MAP-M test.
Wootton has selected the following dates and times for test administration:
- The MAP-R test will be administered on Tuesday, September 26th and Wednesday, September 27th in students’ English classes.
- The MAP-M test will be administered on Tuesday, October 3rd for 9th grade students who are in Algebra I.
Here are some resources to help you navigate the test and its components: You can learn About the Test, Take the Practice Test (Username: grow Password: grow) and get more of an overview of the test with this resource from the NWEA website, the creator of the MAP assessment.
As a reminder, your child will need to bring their Chromebook to access the test.
Do you have any questions or concerns about …
- MAP-R? Contact Margaret Broe at Margaret_Broe@mcpsmd.org

Senior Class Breakfast and Photo
Hello Senior Parents!
- Please help us with our annual Senior Breakfast coming up on Wednesday, October 11th! While the rest of the school is taking the PSAT, the Class of 2024 will meet in the cafeteria for a senior breakfast, followed by the official senior picture of the whole class at the stadium. Senior will wear the black t-shirt now on sale on School Cash Online, or by bringing cash to room 123 at lunch. The shirt is $20 until 9/18 and then becomes $24 until 9/22.
- We are seeking donations for the breakfast. Please use the Sign-Up Genius link below to help donate goods. We are looking for enough to feed about 400 seniors. When signing up please specify the quantity of items you will be bringing in the comment section. The Senior Breakfast starts at 9:30am so donations should be dropped off between 8-8:30am on the 11th in the cafeteria. We are also in need of parent volunteers to help serve food and clean up and there is a space to sign up for that on the Sign-Up Genius link.
- Please contact the Senior Class Sponsor, Keith Schwartz (Keith_A_Schwartz@mcpsmd.org) if you have any questions! Thanks!
