Saturday School and Camp Marcum- February 3rd
Our next Saturday School session is coming up! Have your child make up an absence and turn it into a day of attendance! This 1/2 day (8:30-12:30) of enrichment led by a certificated teacher, not only helps the school recoup lost funding from absences, but also helps interdistrict students maintain their good standing for interdistrict reviews by helping increase their attendance percentage, and is fun!!!
No absences? No problem! Students without absences can participate in a day (7:30-4:30) of fun activities with Camp Marcum!
Camp Marcum will also be available before and after Saturday school, to allow for greater flexibility for families to drop off and pick up.
Space is limited in both programs for our February 3rd session, so sign up below today! Available for TK-8th Grade only. Please sign up for this session today!
Other upcoming Saturday School/Camp Marcum Sessions:
School Board Recognition Month
School board members volunteer many hours and an immeasurable amount of energy to assure that our school is providing the best education possible for the children of our community. January is School Board Recognition Month and the perfect time to acknowledge their service to our students and our community.
School board members are citizens whose decisions affect our children — what they learn, who will teach them and what kinds of facilities house their classrooms. These are men and women elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for our public school. They represent you, and they take this responsibility seriously. We encourage you to take a moment this month to tell a school board member “thank you for caring about our children’s education.”
Thank you to our MIUSD Board Members: Jeff Moore, Jill Bramhill, Emily Daddow, Keith Turner, and Josh Wanner.
Wildcat Contributor Award
The Marcum-Illinois School Board started presenting the Wildcat Contributor Award to recipients in 2017. The Wildcat Contributor award is an award that recognizes valuable members of our Marcum community for their contributions to our students, school, and community. We’ve had many great recipients over the last few years, but we would love to have more nominees for this special award. If you know of someone who deserves to be nominated for the Wildcat Contributor award, please complete a nomination form online: https://forms.gle/8KjX7kXM2qvViYH77 , or simply write up a description that includes who you are nominating and why they deserve this award and submit
it to the school office.
California Junior Scholarship Federation
Marcum is pleased to continue as an official chapter of the California Junior Scholarship Federation. CJSF is a non-profit organization that emphasizes academic excellence, scholarship and community service among California middle school students. CJSF encourages service to the school and community while fostering pride in scholastic achievement. Student membership is based on academic excellence and citizenship. Only 7th and 8th grade students are eligible to apply and must apply after each grading period a student is eligible. Our current CJSF members are: Aubrey Y., London C., Emily M., Yulissa N., Katie S., Isabella S., Kimber K., Bradley W., Emma S., Ellie G., Molly S., Brooke C., and Reagan M.
Teacher Collaboration Update
For the month of January, teachers will have the opportunity to prepare mid-trimester progress reports and plan student groupings and focus areas for a new cycle of interventions. They will also receive science curriculum support from our county coordinator, and review key academic vocabulary routines alongside best practices for writing instruction from the county’s High 5 for All series.
