I hope that you have all had a relaxing 4-day weekend whether you attended the convention or just spent time relaxing with family or friends.

It is hard to believe that we are starting the second marking period and coming up on the holiday season. Thank you for all you have done to get the school year off to a start and thank you for your continued perseverance.

Please read through this newsletter carefully so that you are aware of upcoming key dates as well as items of priority.

I will be beginning weekly office hours open to anyone who wants to stop in to check-in, share ideas, or bring issues to my attention. I hope that you will make time to engage as I appreciate your feedback and especially your ideas.

Beginning tomorrow, we will be adopting a new approach to monitoring for uniform compliance and there are also updates to the policy noted below.

High School (9-12)

• Khaki bottoms
• Blue/Black/White Polo
• Blue/Black/White Sweatshirt or Hoodie

Middle School (7-8)

• Gym Days: Athletic Bottoms, Sneakers, Blue/Black/White T-Shirt or Sweatshirt/Hoodie
• Uniform Days - See High School above

Uniforms will be checked upon arrival to school.

• High School students out of uniform will be held in the auditorium until they either borrow uniform items or a parent/guardian brings them uniform clothing.
• Middle School students out of uniform will be held in the media center.

The final day to accept any student work is tomorrow, November 14th.

Gradebooks are OPEN and grades must be posted by Friday, 11/18 at 3pm.

No teacher is to assign an "INC" (incomplete) without prior approval from the student's school counselor. Tomorrow, we will share out a Google Form for this purpose.

Please DO NOT manually adjust grades for loss of credit due to attendance or cutting. We will be doing this on the back end automatically through Genesis. Additionally, if a student receives credit back due to an attendance appeal, we will notify you.

If a student has failed your class for the marking period, please ensure that your contact notes are accurately updated in the "Notes" section of Genesis. School counselors will be reaching out to you during the week of 11/21 for more information. You will be required to hold a conference with that student's family during parent-teacher conferences.

If a student has lost credit due to attendance, we will be developing individual credit recovery plans. We will share more information about this soon, but please keep in mind that NO NEW INSTANCES OF BUYBACK are being added.

We will be going live with the credit recovery, buyback, and detention programs beginning on Thursday.

Our faculty meeting on Wednesday will address how these programs will be run as well as overview the new discipline procedures and expectations that we are putting into place.

This week, please be advised that we will be pulling groups of seniors & juniors to hold graduation conferences. Additionally, I will be visiting English classes with the school counselors to do town halls with students (we will reach out in advance).

In an effort to continue sharing out the great things we have going on at APHS, we are introducing a digital way to request morning announcements.

Please submit the form before 8am on the day you would like it read. Advanced requests are completely acceptable!

I will be establishing a Liaison Committee as a way to bring building issues to a centralized meeting where the committee can work together to identify solutions and plan pathways for improved practice and communication.

The Liaison Committee will be comprised of the Principal, building administrators, a building association representative, an instructional coach, & 3 staff volunteers (teachers, security staff, coaches, administrative assistants, counselors, etc.).

Meetings will be held 4 times a year following the end of each marking period after school hours. If you are interested in volunteering your time to be a part of this committee, please reach out to me by email.

I will send out a formal memo regarding this as well as procedures for referring something to the committee, appropriate topics for discussion, and overall structure soon.
