• The Crucible is finally here! Opening night was last night, November 8th. Remaining performances are November 9 & 10 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available at the door or online by visiting www.ShowTix4U.com. Don't miss the first production of the season!

As we continue to recognize our students for demonstrating RAWR behaviors, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Defy Boardshop (http://defyboardshop.com) here in Corona for their support of our RAWR incentive program. They generously donated gift cards that we can pass on to our students to reinforce those positive behaviors we wish to see for all our Panthers! Thank you, Defy!!!

On Thursday, November 8th, our HCP team hosted our 3rd annual Health & Wellness Expo. This Expo provided opportunities for our students to meet health professionals (including the US Army) and learn more about health & wellness. We were also joined by 5th graders from Vicentia, Jefferson, & Coronita Elementaries. Even our superintendent Dr. Lin and CNUSD Board Vice President Mrs. Mary Ybarra participated and got their vitals read by one of our HCP students. A significant component of our Career Technical Education (CTE) programs is providing our students with certifications that they can utilize in their respective industry to gain an advantage in securing a job or continuing their post-secondary education. I am pleased to announce that in our Automotive Technology Pathway, 15 students passed the first round of Snap-On Service Information Exams! They are well on their way to securing one of the Snap-On certifications we offer at Corona High School!

• On November 17th NJROTC will perform in the Chaparral High School Veterans Drill Meet. Competition includes drill, color guard and physical fitness. Our drill teams will perform both exhibition and basic drill competing against various ROTC units from throughout Southern California.
• Although our cadets are well known for their community service efforts, the months of November and December are considered community service months. We have chosen 5 families to adopt during the upcoming holidays and will be helping out at the Settlement House in Corona with a few visits to the assistant living center at Crown Point.
• During this time of year NJROTC enjoys providing and giving back to our community. We are family-driven and enjoy immense support from our school, district and the overall community. Parents are always welcomed to join us in any outside school activities.

Twice a year each school gets an opportunity to nominate four students for board recognition . We are given flexibility to determine our own criteria for nominations, and we decided we would recognize students who have demonstrated resilient behaviors. Below you will find the list of high school students being recognized at the next board meeting. Corona High School will be represented by juniors Hannah Gurney and Janet Ramirez, and seniors Ulises Soto and Hailey Stankiewicz. The recognition event will be held at the district office in Learning Center South on November 13th at 5:00 pm. Congratulations to all our nominees!

On November 7th our district hosted our annual Principal for a Day event. My guest was Corona High School Class of 2012 graduate, Nathan Rodriguez. Nathan recently completed his degree in Political Science from West Virginia University and is currently working as a Staff Assistant in Congressman Ken Calvert's office. I would like to thank Jerard, Alexis, and Emma, three of our ASB leaders representing our school in assisting with the reception along with students from our four other comprehensive high schools (Norco, Santiago, Centennial and Eleanor Roosevelt). The theme this year was #CNUSDisKind. Each school presented how we are promoting kindness on our respective campuses.

Last week, our Friday Night Live Club hosted Red Ribbon Week to promote healthy living without drugs or alcohol. As part of the campaign, students enter a contest to express how they support this lifestyle. I am proud to announce that two of our very own Corona High School Panthers have been selected as winners in the Creative Writing category! Congratulations to two of our 9th grade Puente students, Sabrina Barboza and Jonathan "Angel" Rivera, for earning this honor. They will be recognized at the district office on Thursday, November 15th at 6:30 pm in Learning Center South at the district office. Congratulations, Sabrina and Angel!

On Thursday, November 15th, both Renaissance and UNITY are going engage our students and staff in two separate gratitude activities. Renaissance will be providing Forget Me Knots as a way for us to express our gratitude to others on this campus that have made a positive difference in our lives. UNITY will be providing Gratitude Turkeys to serve the same purpose of expressing our gratitude. During these hectic days, it's always a great idea for our own mental and physical health to take time to express our gratitude and appreciation. Way to go Renaissance and UNITY for leading the way!

• Senior parents, please be aware that your student's last chance to check their yearbook photo and verify the spelling their name is next week! They may stop by Mrs. Alvarez's classroom in C-4 during both lunches on Tuesday, November 13th.

November is NATIONAL GRATITUDE MONTH. Gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you.” Gratitude’s amazing powers have the ability to shift us from focusing on the negative to appreciating what is positive in our lives. Practicing daily gratitude gives us a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us. Everything in our lives has the ability to improve when we are grateful. Research has shown that gratitude can enhance our moods, decrease stress, and drastically improve our overall level of health and well-being. On average, grateful people tend to have fewer stress-related illnesses and experience less depression and lowered blood pressure, they are more physically fit, they are happier, have a higher income, more satisfying personal and professional relationships and will be better liked. Grateful kids are even more likely to get A’s in school. If everyone practiced daily gratitude, we could change ourselves and everyone would be much happier. Give gratitude a try! You’ll be happier you did.

The Annual California Healthy Kids Survey will be administered in 9th and 11th grade English Language Arts (ELA) classes within the next couple of weeks. A copy of the survey is available in the front office for review. Your child should have brought home the passive consent form 2 weeks ago. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's participation in the survey, please contact Mrs. Bogner at kbogner@cnusd.k12.ca.us or your child's ELA teacher.

• Passive Consent--Permission Request Regarding Health Survey–High School

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We are requesting your permission for your child to be a part of our school’s California Healthy Kids Survey sponsored by the California Department of Education. This important survey will help provide data to improve the school learning environment, academic achievement, and the health and well-being of our youth. It includes questions about drug abuse, safety and violence, risk of depression and suicide, and sexual orientation.

Student participation is voluntary and anonymous. Your child does not have to take the survey. No names or any other identifying information is connected to the answers except for the name of the school.

Student participation requires your permission. We hope you will encourage participation so that your child’s opinion and knowledge can be part of the information gleaned from the survey. If you do not want your child to complete the survey, you must notify the school by returning the “withdrawal form” that was sent home.

Weekly Fall Sports Updates

• Cross Country: Sophomore phenoms, Elisa Huerta and Victor Ceja, qualified individually for CIF finals by placing 4th and 5th, respectively in the league varsity finals. Division I CIF prelims will be at the Riverside City Cross Country Course on November 10th. Below you will see them having an ice bath before their big race. Good luck to Elisa and Victor in CIF!

Maintaining high grades is also very demanding, so it's always impressive when students are able to do both well. These scholar-athletes have clearly demonstrated RAWR behaviors!
