Get to Know Your Principal!
Tutoring continues!!!
Tutoring continues next week on Monday and Tuesday only due to the holiday. We will resume normal schedule the following week, November 27, 2023.
Saturday Academy Program in Session November 18, 2023
Saturday Academy continues on Saturday, November 18, 2023. We will not have Saturday Academy next Saturday, November 25, 2023 due to the holiday. Remember this is by invitation only, Summer Makeup Saturday Academy has ended, and the program is from 9:00am-11:00am. Please be on time for arrival and departure.

The 2024-2025 lottery for Charter Schools is now open! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled in Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption. They must be living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Updates
Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)
PTO
Our next PTO meeting will be virtual only on Wednesday, November 29th at 6pm. The link for the meeting along with the agenda will be posted the day of on Dojo. Your scholar(s) will receive 10 dojo points as a thank you for joining us!

Fascinating First Grade News!
This week, our scholars have completed their OSLAT testing. We are all very proud of our 1st graders. Next week, our fall break starts on November 22nd. First grade will not be given any homework for that week.
However, please continue to work on your STEM fair project. If you have not submitted your topic to your teacher, please do so ASAP.

As mentioned last week, the first grade team is VERY excited to announce our field trip to Port Discovery on January 9th, 2024. Please note, permission slips went out this week with your scholar. They are due back by January 2; however, please feel free to send them back early. Payment instructions are located as a QR code on the permission slip.

Second Grade
Spectacular Second Grade News!
Thank you for attending our Second Grade Team Parent University. It is our hope that the information shared was informative and helpful.
Next week is a short week so there will not be any homework. We will review Unit 2 theme Nature's Wonders in reading. In Math, we will continue Topic 5. This topic focuses on fluently subtracting within 100.
We will work on our STEM Activity (2nd Grade CMIT Day Parade Floats). Please send a small shoe box and craft items. Students will design and present their shoebox during our grade level parade.
As we continue to settle into the school year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly, please label your scholar's school uniform jackets.

This week in math, we will continue dividing whole numbers by 2-digit divisors. Students will use different strategies to divide 3- and 4-digit numbers by 2-digit divisors.
Science
Students will continue to develop an understanding of cause-and-effect relationships as they explore how Earth's systems support the existence of life.
Social Studies
Students will be reading and writing about The English Colonies in Virginia.
RELA:
Great job this week, scholars! We are now migrating into Unit 2 Week 2. We will synthesize information in "A Place for Frogs" to create and gain new understanding. Students will work with multisyllable words with final closed syllables -le, -tion, and -sion in their word study. Lastly, they will continue to work on analyzing an article and writing a summary using term specific details in their sentences.

Tigers will be finishing up projects with artist statements, taking their preliminary sketches to final renderings with craftsmanship as a priority. We will also increase reviews and discussions to practice reflection activities. Necessary materials include sketchbooks/paper, pencils, and colored pencils or crayons.

The learners will receive direct instruction and practice with the basic keyboarding techniques needed to type using the upper row keys. The learners will gain knowledge about proper finger placement and posture, and are provided a review of the home row keys in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.

Greetings,
This week, Kinder scholars are drawing for our dog house that will keep a dog cool on a sunny day. First grade scholars are continuing our new unit exploring the weather. Second grade scholars are beginning to construct the bridges for the scenarios that their group was given. Third grade scholars are continuing to design and build their pinball machines. Fourth grade scholars are brainstorming and designing their new car safety feature. Fifth grade scholars are using what they learned about matter to help them develop two formulas for their stepping stone.
