A Message from the Principal
Dear ALMS Families,
Good Evening! We welcome you to our newsletter this week! Please see below to learn more about what we have going on in our school! We are highlighting our 21st Century Afterschool Program. Please see below for details on upcoming events as well as a the Teacher Feature on Ms. Robeson-Porter.
This week, the Board of Education Meeting was held at Albert Leonard. We had an inspiring performance from our 8th Grade Select Choir, singing "This is Me" from the Greatest Showman. with arrangement by our very own, Mr. Archie Manning. Student speakers from the Media Club shared all they have accomplished this year and last! Lastly, we recognized our tenure recipients from this past school year. Join me in congratulating Laura Altshuler, Jennifer Costello, Robert Ettlinger, Rana Hafiz, Matthew Lucero, Omar Martinez, and Tiauna Washington!
We would also like to bring your attention to our Teacher Spotlight from last week, Ms. D'Ippolito's ExStream Classes, sharing a video of their final project from Marking Period 1.
Finally, our Media Club has been busy getting their new Sports Section up and running. It is called, "Game On" and it features teachers and students reporting on professional games, and talking about their sports fandom! Soon to come, highlights from our very own sports teams here at ALMS. Check back when the winter sports seasons start!
Please remember that we have a short week next week. Wednesday will be a half day and school will not be in session on Thursday and Friday due to Thanksgiving and Indigenous People Day!
Warm regards,

Middle School Student Leaders Train to be Upstanders
On Wednesday, November 15th, sixteen of our seventh grade students from across the district participated in an important student leadership opportunity sponsored by the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center. The 9th Annual Human Rights Institute for Middle School Leaders was attended by ALMS students Camila Minaya, Avery Howard, Angeline Yang, Lyric Hill, Soham Dash, Eliana Johnson, Cesar Alvarez and Ava Crino.
The purpose of the institute is to promote student awareness of human rights issues and empower students to become upstanders rather than bystanders in their school and community. Students attended a keynote presentation by Ms. Sheila Arnold (a renowned performer from History Alive!) followed by a workshop on the importance of human rights and standing up against all forms of prejudice. Over the course of the next few months, these students will work with Ms. Elizabeth Fogler (ALMS ELA teacher), Ms. Nicolette Loaiza (ALMS Student Assistance Counselor) to create public service presentations on these subjects for the rest of their peers in the seventh grade.

ALMS Recognizes No Vape November
November 16th is the Great American Smokeout/Vapeout. For more than 40 years The American Cancer Society has used today as a way to educate others about the risks with smoking or vaping and encouraging people who smoke/vape to make a plan to stop and use the date as day 1 of quitting. Students had the opportunity to participate in a spin the wheel activity during their lunch where they were given facts related to the risk of vaping.
