Preparing for next week:
Please make sure you go through the grade book and make up any Ms. If you have any grades that are lower than you would like, please work through the lesson again to improve your grade. If you have any questions or need help checking the grade book, please let me know.
Please ensure that you complete your Reading Benchmark located in USA Test Prep.
If a subject says Catch Up please check the grade book to ensure you do not have any Ms and complete any overdue assignments. Please log in to USA Test Prep and ensure that you have completed all of your TGAs.

5th Grade Math with Mrs. Vandever
This week is benchmark week. Please be sure to take your time, give your best effort and complete the benchmark by yourself. We will be using the information from the benchmark to help get you ready for the STAAR test in April. It must be completed by Friday. This is the priority of the week. You have a lighter work load this week. This will give you the opportunity to catch up. Be sure you are working in STRIDE.
Join the GREEN TEAM!! Your report in Math Facts Pro shows all the facts you have memorized (quick recall) in green. Let's make all of your facts green. I already have 2 students who are on the GREEN TEAM. The week after we return from Spring Break, week of March 18th, we will have something special for those students who are on the GREEN TEAM and know all of their multiplication facts. Some of you are only 1 to 3 facts away from joining the team. Keep practicing!

5th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Looking Back -
We examined some of the fundamental laws of physics in our first two lessons of Unit 9. These helped us understand force, motion, mass, gravity, and inertia. Next, we will explore how energy can be taken out of storage (sort of) and put to work in lots of ways.
Looking Ahead –
We store energy in a variety of ways without ever really thinking about it. Even your breakfast is stored energy that you will put to work later to get stuff done (like mowing the lawn or taking out the trash). How does this stored energy become something that moves or works?
Next week is Benchmark week! Make your completion of Reading, Math, and Science benchmark tests a priority!
Extra Credit is available next week as we write in our CC’s!
We are enjoying some writing time next week in our Friday Class Connect. This is an opportunity for extra credit just for participating in our writing activity. Please join us!
Continue to devote one hour (or two 30 minute sessions) to Stride Science lessons each week.
Science News for the Week: We’ve been discussing forces and inertia in 5th grade physics. One of my favorite tricks that demonstrates motion and force is the amazing way that dominos can create a chain reaction with other dominos (or other objects). Check out this insane video of physics at work.
