Fire Safety Student Assignment
Fire Prevention Week 2022- Fire Won't Wait. Plan Your Escape
Dear Walker Families and Caregivers,
Just a reminder that we do not have school tomorrow, Monday October 24th. This would be a great time to complete the family project assigned by the Springdale Fire Department to all 1st through 5th grade students.
Student Assignment From the Springdale Fire Department
The Springdale Fire Department asked each student to draw their fire escape route. The plan needs to include a map or floor plan of their house that includes two exits from each room and an outdoor meeting location. The escape plan must be signed by a parent or caregiver and turned into the Walker office by October 31st. One winner will be selected from Walker Elementary to ride to school in a fire truck. Videos and resources have been linked below to help your child create an escape plan.
Did you know that Fire Prevention Week was started by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in 1922 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871? Fire Prevention Week teaches children and adults how to stay safe in the event of a fire. This year is the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week!
Thank you to the Springdale Fire Department and Captain Pinkley for sharing about fire safety with our 1st-5th grade students.
