FAPS #WeAreFenton Community Update
November 9, 2023
November Thanks!
Dear Fenton Community and Families
November is a time of the year when one is reminded to express thanks to those that you care about, and what you are grateful for! We are extremely grateful that you let us spend our school year with your children - they are truly the very best part of our jobs! Hopefully you have heard me say this often, but November is a time to say it most definitely.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR WEAREFENTON FAMILY and COMMUNITY for the support of our Safety, Security and Facilities Bond! The dollars will undoubtedly provide legacy changes for our district facilities and add legacy programming and technology for our students for several years. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! We will be updating our community as the timeline for improvements and bond projects from start to finish. Stay tuned for details after the first of the year!
Lastly, please also find our Paws 4 Thanksgiving information in the newsletter. We have done this the last few years, and have found it helpful for all involved. We will all be pausing to enjoy our families, we encourage everyone to pause if you can from technology, homework, job work, and enjoy the time with family and friends of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
I hope everyone has an opportunity to reflect on what they are grateful for this November and that helps bring happiness to your Thanksgiving Holiday!
Sincerely,
Heidie Ciesielski
Superintendent

State Road Craft Show
It's craft show time, and the infamous State Road Craft Show will take place on November 19, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. @ Fenton High School. The event NEVER disappoints! Please consider attending - the PTO and staff at State Road have worked hard to bring in over 250 exceptional vendors as well as 4 local restaurants will be serving food, and fun coffee truck parked outside!
State Road Construction City of Fenton Update
On Friday, November 10th, crews will start milling the South bound lane of State Road in preparation for paving. The traffic will shift to the lane that would typically be North bound, but the flow of traffic will continue to move South bound as it has since the beginning of construction. Residents and commuters can expect no change to the flow of traffic for the next week, only a change in lane.
During the week of November 13th, concrete and debris will be removed from the portion of the road that had been milled to prepare for the new road base. At this time, some concrete work will begin at the intersections along State Road including curbing and sidewalks. These areas will be staked prior to installation and then will be taped off as the concrete cures. While caution tape is up, it is highly important to stay off the wet concrete. It can take up to seven days for the concrete to cure properly.
There will be no interruptions to the school entryways during the week. Work on the drives to State Road Elementary will take place on weekends, so plan building access accordingly. As always the city continues to thank you for your patience through this projects and all road projects in the city!
Honoring our WeAreFenton Veterans
Thank you to those service men and women in our WeAreFenton Family who serve or have served to help provide the life we all get the pleasure to live - we are grateful! Please take a look below at how FAPS is celebrating Veterans' Day and a worthy cause we are helping support.

Inclement Weather Season
With the holiday season upon us, it's that time of year when we start preparing for possible inclement weather and the possibility of school cancelation. Please take time to plan for what you and your family will do in the event we have to cancel school. The district will always attempt to make decisions in time for you to use your plans optimally; however, sometimes with mother nature and the weather patterns in Michigan it doesn't always go as we'd all appreciate.
Please take a look below at the process for a weather cancelation and understand that we try our best to ensure student safety above all else.
A. We monitor the weather, and if severe weather is predicted, as superintendent, I along with the help of our transportation/operations department, local road commission and law enforcement evaluate potential issues.
B. As superintendent, I collaborate with Genesee County Superintendents to make decisions based on the road conditions for our area currently and/or in the near future.
C. We as a district will notify designated individuals in the event of a school closure to then disseminate information as quickly as possible.
D. Families can check: the district website, messaging through our FAPS app to phones in the form of voice, text message, email message, district Facebook, and news stations (ABC 12, WNEM 5, NBC 25, Detroit Fox2).
When the weather breaks and road conditions are in question, remember to leave early and drive slowly. Also, ensure your contact information is updated with your school so the district can provide the most efficient communication.
FAPS Board of Education
Board of Education Meeting November 6, 2023
Our school board held the regular monthly meeting on November 6th. Please find the link to the November meeting located on BOE website. We also conducted several sub-committee meetings including policy and finance - also our board has hosted two coffee talks as community engagement activities. Very proud of our board of education for the hard work they are putting in to govern our district and set policy to ensure our success. https://www.fentonschools.org/o/fps/page/agendas
