Sachse Mustang Band Updates
September 1, 2023
Week 2 of Football
We finally were able to have our first "normal" week of rehearsal! We made a lot of great progress this week and are super excited as the show really starts coming together. With that said, it is imperative that all students are taking care of their business in all classes as eligibility will start factoring in in just two more weeks right as we get into our contest season. Students must be passing by the 6-week grade lock. In addition, please read all important reminders below so we are able to move forward in a positive way and not allow things to get in the way that could negatively impact what we've been working so hard to put together.
Important Reminders
ALL students being dropped off or picked up for ALL events, PARENTS MUST PARK!!! DO NOT STOP AND DROP OFF AT THE CORNER OR IN THE FIRE LANE.
Per Mr. Creel: "There are no more warnings. If a student is caught being dropped off there, they will be suspended from the next game or contest. That discipline will come from me and there is no appeal when that occurs."
Please follow instructions regarding pick up and drop off, it would be a shame to miss out on a game/ contest because we can't follow simple instructions.
Parents, please use the parent band app if you have questions that you need answered. The main band app is intended to allow staff to get necessary information to the entire group all at one time. It is not intended to be your facebook page. Please use it appropriately or it will be necessary to turn off all commenting on the main page.
Student guidelines for football games expectations are reviewed during inspection. Students who are not able to meet expectations outlined in the band handbook may be subject to removal from the program. All students and parents have signed and agreed to these expectations in the band handbook, inspection reminders are simply reminders of expectations that are already in place. If you need to pick up a copy of the band handbook, we have extras in the bandhall office available for anyone who needs them.
Spring Band Trip
Below is the Spring Trip information. Please read entirely to consider if you'd like to sign up your student to attend. This trip is not included in fees already paid and all band fees must be paid in full by the time of the trip in order to be able to participate. This is not required, but encouraged and ALL band and guard students are eligible to sign up to participate in our spring trip. Please fill out the google form by the end of the day on Monday so we can give that preliminary number to the travel agent for reservation purposes. Please read all paperwork prior to filling out the google form. Deposit and trip forms are due by the end of next week.

Looking Ahead...
Please make sure you are looking ahead on the calendar, there will be another S'more update next week since we will be in full uniform to give all the appropriate information for adding that piece to our puzzle. I have checked the calendar through the end of marching season and corrected things that were changed. Please let me know if anything seems off because we are not entirely sure what caused some things to be moved/ deleted from this calendar.
Eligibility
Eligibility can be very confusing as there are exceptions to some classes. It can also be confusing as to when students technically become ineligible/ eligible. We work to communicate directly with students who may be affected so they are clear with when they are able/ not to participate. ALL students are eligible for all practices regardless as this is also a class and grades are taken for practices. Most performances, depending on the nature of that performance are affected by eligibility. Please do not assume that your child is not eligible. Reach out to a director for clarification if your child is also unsure.
The end of the first 6 Weeks will be the first check to determine eligibility. It is imperative that students are passing all classes at both the 6 and 9 Weeks for all marching band activities. This is one of the confusing pieces as the FIRST 6 Weeks grade is the only 6 Weeks Report that a student can lose eligibility. All other 3 and 6 week grade checks can only help a student regain, but will not cause them to lose eligibility.
Finally, please be aware that due to the complicated nature of the system and calendar, it is highly likely that classroom teachers that don't handle eligibility regularly may not understand how it works. Please refer to a band director to answer questions about eligibility.
For a listing of courses exempt from ineligibility, go to our course guides page. Page 20 is where you will find all exempt courses.
POST GAME PICK-UP
The same expectations as student drop-offs apply to pick-up. Please make sure to enter the front parking lot and find a parking space to wait for your student to come to you. Do NOT park in the fire lane to pick them up even if they happen to be coming out at that time, this backs up traffic for other parents trying to get into the parking lot.
FALL BREAK (repeat)
Most Spring activities are listed as well.
