A Message from the Principal:
Wellness and Staying Healthy
Dear Families,
This week students returned from Fall Break and were immediately immersed in the learning that occurs each day at ASU Prep. On Thursday, well-rested students were actively engaged with the many concepts they encountered. We are focused on developing confident, reflective mindsets in our students, and we recognize that an important aspect in this development is ensuring that students lead healthy lives.
At ASU Prep, we believe that our instruction should involve students' health. All of our elementary school students take P.E. PE and a Health and Wellness course is offered as part of the secondary curriculum. Our students also get involved with sports teams and clubs that promote wellness and physical activity. We offer these experiences because we recognize the importance of children being physically healthy as they grow.
Our hands do what our eyes see. Active minds shine a light through active, purposeful lives. The union between body and mind is integral to wellness. As much as we desire for students to be physically healthy, we also hope that they are allowing this same attitude of wellness to permeate their minds and how they think critically and creatively, persevering in their problem solving. Students who possess both healthy bodies and minds are truly prepared to rise and effect change in their communities and the world.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mendoza

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS
2nd Grade
At ASU Prep our second graders have been busy with our weekly STEM activities. We've done Oobleck, a mysterious concoction of ingredients that have some of the properties of both solids and liquids! We created airplanes after reading Violet the Pilot and tested our planes to see how folding or weighting changes the distance the planes can fly. This fall we did many fun activities with apples including an apple pie writing assignment as well as building an "apple tree" out of paper towels holders, popsicle sticks and puff balls and finding the correct balance to hold the most "apples" on top of our trees. Finally, we used straws and tape to create stands to hold small pumpkins off the table. We learned a great deal through the STEM process, especially how to work best as a team!

ANTI-BULLYING SPIRIT WEEK: 10/31 - 11/4
Every day, thousands of young people experience bullying from their peers at school, after school in their neighborhoods, and even when they are at home, through social media and texts. Due to October being National Bullying Prevention month, we will be showing our support to stop bullying by hosting an Anti-Bully Spirit Week. Along with other school initiatives, we aspire to continue building an inclusive and kind culture for all of our students.
Thank you!

Students arriving after 8:30AM are considered late and parents are REQUIRED to come in the front office to sign your student in.
