It’s pretty hot down in the welding lab this summer!
Mrs. Witham, the Welding teacher at Dover High School & Regional Career Technical Center, was excited to team up with students from DMS this summer and offer an afternoon enrichment course in her welding lab! Rising 8th and 9th graders worked together to learn how to read blueprints and fabricate a metal bracket that they could bring home to show off.
The project incorporated many skills, including reading a tape measure, operating a drill press, and using a material bender. They also learned how to use a plasma arc cutter to cut the metal, and a flame torch to heat the metal and bend it with a vice and hammer. The final step had students proudly labeling their work with a hammer and metal stamp before bringing them home.
The most impressive part...students were able to complete all of this in only TWO afternoons!
