Meet the Teacher

Welcome to 5th Grade! I am excited to be one of your student's 5th grade teacher this year for Math and Science. This will be my 4th year teaching 5th grade at Wilkesboro Elementary with the last year teaching the 4th and 5th grade combination class. This is also my 4th year coaching the Varsity Women's Soccer Team at Wilkes Central High School.

I grew up in Wilkesboro, and I attended elementary school here at WES just like you! Fun fact: our classroom was once my classroom when I was in school here! I graduated from Wilkes Central High School as Valedictorian and went on to continue my education at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill to pursue a degree in Chemistry where I also won a National Championship with the Women's Club Basketball Team. I soon discovered I had a passion in teaching and transferred to the University of North Carolina Wilmington to complete a degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Mathematics and Technology. I am currently a student in the STEM Ed Master's program at NC State University and hope to graduate after next summer with a Master's in Science and a Master's in Education! I have loved being able to share some of the content I am learning in my Master's program with my students last year and can't wait to share more this year!

Outside of teaching, I love coaching my high school and travel soccer teams and playing pickup soccer and basketball whenever I can find a game. I love reading, and I am a big Harry Potter fan! I also love music and play piano, acoustic guitar, and bass guitar at my home church and whenever I find time in my busy schedule.

When I am home, my favorite companion is my cat Rosie! She is three years old, and I trained her like a service dog when I was home for Covid. She loves long walks on a leash, enoing and hiking, swimming, playing fetch, and riding in the car.

This will look differently than it may have looked in the past for your student. This year, we are preparing your student for middle school by switching classes for Reading and Math! Your student will start with their homeroom teacher and switch classes for the other content area. See the below for your child's schedule:

NOTE: If you need support with supplies for your student, please reach out! We will be prepared and have things ready that are needed.

I believe open and honest communication is extremely important to the educational success of any student. I will post most frequently on Class Dojo, usually about the day-to-day activities of our class and very important events. I will also keep our Smore Newsletter updated as often as needed. This will include a monthly overview of lessons, our class calendar, as well as school-wide special events. I will also offer opportunities to schedule either in-person or phone conferences periodically throughout the school year.

My preferred communication hours are Monday-Friday, from 7:00am-5:00pm. Any messages received outside of those hours will be answered as soon as possible the next school day.

The best way to contact me is through Class Dojo. We can set up a time for a conference or call through that avenue. If you need another method, here are some other ways to contact me!
