Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
Greetings, Panther Families
A lot of great things keep happening at The Corona High School. This year we were the second high school in the district to bring on the Dual Language Immersion program (DLI), kicked off our PLTW Computer Science pathway, launched the district’s first and only Aviation pathway, welcomed our first 4-year cohort of the Corona STEM Academy, were just named as an Amazon Future Engineer school, and now we are happy to bring yet another great opportunity for our students...Dual Enrollment! In short, Dual Enrollment gives our students the opportunity to earn college credit while taking classes on our campus taught by college instructors. This opportunity will be available to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders beginning next school year. If you would like more information, please attend our Parent Information Night on March 26th beginning at 6:00 pm in our library. RAWR!
Respectfully,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.

Corona STEM Academy
Amazon Future Engineer School
As has been recently announced, Corona High School was selected as an Amazon Future Engineer participant for our Computer Science Pathway. On March 6th, representatives from Amazon visited our Corona STEM Academy Computer Science students and had the opportunity to learn more about the work we are doing to prepare our students for the future. The session was valuable for both Amazon and our own students who had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session. This partnership is going to provide some amazing possibilities for our students!
You can learn more about the program here: https://www.amazonfutureengineer.com/.
Our district Communications Office released this article: http://news.cnusd.net/corona-high-named-amazon-future-engineer-school/
Aviation
The Corona High School Aviators visited the Planes of Fame museum at the Chino Airport and got a tour of the Air Traffic Control Tower. They also visited Flying Academy Los Angeles at the Corona airport on March 4th. On March 9th, our students will get their first taste of real flight by participating in the EAA Young Eagles program at the Flabob Airport. Each student will get a short flight in a small airplane!
Automotive Technology
CTE
It is with great gratitude that the CTE department at Corona High School thanks Navjot Kaur and Gurneet Singh for their gracious donations. Navjot and Gurneet donated 6 comprehensive first aid kits, 6 large fire blankets, and 10 eyewash kits to Corona High School’s auto shop, wood shop, metal shop, and engineering programs. The first aid kits will serve a great need in proving more safety for our students. Navjot and her son Gurneet have really step up to help Corona High School and we will always be thankful for their contribution!

Learning Beyond the Classroom
US History
AP Environmental Science
Our APES class recently took a field trip to Prado Wetlands and got to tour the water reclamation plant led by Corona High School c/o 2007 graduate, Andrew Farah. The students conducted water quality tests, took a nature hike, planted native trees, and learned about the effect of the invasive cowbirds on the endangered Least Bell’s Vireo. Thank you to community members: the biologists at the Orange County water district and the Inland Empire Water Keepers and City of Corona for funding the this authentic learning experience!
Physical Fitness Test
It is that time of year again: the physical fitness test! Testing has begun and will continue being administered throughout the month of March. It is important that we test 100% of our freshman class, so please encourage your student to take this test serious as it has class scheduling implications. If students do not pass this test, they MUST be in a PE class sophomore year, and will NOT be eligible to take the summer school PE course for advancement. This applies to our students with impacted schedules due to special programs. Follow this link for more information about the test: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/overview.asp.

Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project
"Since its inception in 1982, the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) has offered a once in a lifetime opportunity for California’s youth in Sacramento. The Sacramento Leadership Conference (SLC) brings 120 high school students from throughout the state to participate in a week-long, intensive leadership program. Conference participants attend powerful workshops and seminars that enhance leadership skills, academic preparedness, self-esteem, cultural awareness, and provide an understanding of state and local government. Programming at all CLYLP programs including the SLC is based on CLYLP’s four curriculum “C’s”: Community, Culture, College, and Careers.
Participants will leave with valuable information and tools that they can begin using when they return to school in the Fall. Most importantly, students will leave with new friendships from throughout the state of California. Housing, meals, program materials and transportation to and from the conference are provided at no cost to the participants or their families."

In the month of February, our staff issued 193 RAWR cards to recognize positive behaviors demonstrated by our students. Below are the names of randomly selected recipients in our monthly raffle. These students received notice to pick their reward from Mrs. Gressley's classroom. Those listed at the very bottom were selected for In-n-Out gift cards or a special limited edition RAWR t-shirt.

Baseball: After two big ones to open Big VIII play, our Panthers fell to the Sharks at Santiago, 3-6, but rebounded with a close win over Norco at home, 5-4. The win keeps us a half-game ahead of the Sharks for first place in league.
Softball: Our league-opener scheduled for March 7th at Roosevelt High School was cancelled. Our Panthers stand with a strong record of 5-2 and await Centennial for our home league-opener scheduled for March 12th.
Track: The Corona Track and Field team hosted the Corona Relays on March2nd. There were 8 teams that competed in the rain in various relay events. Many of our panthers received medals for placing top 3 in different events. On March 6th we traveled to Roosevelt where many of our Panthers hit their best marks or fastest times in their respective events. Here's a brief overview: Elisa Huerta took 2nd in the mile and 1st in the two mile event; Israel Echeverria took 2nd in the mile, 2nd in 800m, and anchored the 4x400m relay; Kalina Todorov placed 3rd in the 100m hurdles; Egbe Ndip-Agbor won both of her events (400m and 200m); Jazmine Lucatero won the 800m; Victor Ceja won the two mile; Rylee Goodrich took 3rd place in the long jump and 2nd place in the triple jump; Ryan Martin won the triple jump; Nicholas Guiterrez placed 3rd in the pole vault; Alyssa Corey placed 3rd in the shot put and 2nd in the discus throw' and Christopher Bautista placed 3rd in the shot put. Way to go, Panthers!
Boys Tennis: We have dropped our first two league games, but played Centennial to a close one at home on March 7th. Congrats to our JV team, who did come out victorious against the Huskies! We will host Lakeside High School on Monday, March 11th.
Boys Golf: Our boys are currently 2-0 after beating La Sierra High School with a score of 246-336. In golf, the lowest score wins!
Boys Volleyball: We hosted Beaumont High School on March 7th, and although we played tough, fell short of the victory. Our next league game will be on March 12th at Santiago High School.
Winter Sports/Misc.
Boys Basketball: Congratulations to our All-Academic All-League members: Ryan, Dallin, Travis and Karsen. Ryan had the highest GPA in the entire Big VIII and we had three Panthers in the top four! Dallin was recognized as the Most Inspirational Player; Seth was named Mr. Defense, and Justin won the Blue Collar Award. Gaven made all-league Big VIII and earned team MVP for the second year in a row. Way to go, Panthers!
LACROSSE: We are looking to add a Lacrosse team for next school year! If your student is interested in trying a new sport and being part of a fun and exciting game, have him/her stop by the Athletics Office in the Gym for to get more information. How exciting would it be to have your child be part of the first ever LACROSSE team here at Corona High School!
