From Mission Control:

It was a COLD one this week, but the students had a great week! They are getting 2022 started on a great note!

NWEA

Most students have wrapped up both the NWEA Math and Reading tests. We still have a few students that need to finish them up next week. We are very happy with the progress we have been making, and will be looking at the data in the next few weeks.

These tests are very important as we look at the results to help us make decisions and guide our instruction practices.

SPLASH Day

We are excited to announce that we have rescheduled SPLASH Day for Friday, January 28th. This was originally scheduled for December 10th, but school was cancelled that day. We are excited to provide this wonderful opportunity for our students!

Whole Child Student Survey

All students at Alma Public Schools will be taking a survey about their feelings on how the school is meeting their needs as a "whole child". Students answers questions about the five components of the "whole child" (the ones listed in green in the picture below); Healthy, Safe, Challenged, Supported, and Engaged. Our Building Implementation Teams (BIT) and District Implementation Team (DIT) will use this data to create our goals moving forward.

ALMA PTO MEETINGS ~ FREE CHILDCARE IS PROVIDED!

The Alma Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, AEPTO, provides several very important functions for elementary students in Alma Public Schools. Their primary purpose is to provide opportunities, experiences, and equipment that will enrich students’ educational experience at APS.

BRRRR......

With January comes the frigid temps! Please make sure students are coming with gloves, hats, boots, and snow pants each day. When the "feels like" temp is 0 degrees or below, they stay inside for recess. If temps are above 0, they go outside. Please make sure they are dressed for the weather. Even when it is cold, it is great for the students to go outside and get fresh air!

Second Steps

We have been enjoying our Social Emotional Learning curriculum called Second Steps. Every Monday, each class with do a mini lesson on a different topic.

In January, we will continue Unit 3 working on Emotion Management.

Ask your students about the program!

Symptoms of Illness

Please check your child each day for signs of any illness. The season of germs & illness is upon us. We encourage our students to practice healthy habits of hand washing and sanitizing throughout the school day. If your child should wake with a fever or sore throat, or other symptoms of illness, they should not attend school that day. Thank you for your cooperation with this!

Pluto the Panther Mascot

The students have picked the name Pluto the Panther for our mascot! Each day he will get to visit a different class and learn with the students!

Seesaw

Make sure you get Seesaw login information you child's teacher. That is what teachers will be using for communication throughout the year!

Transportation Changes

PLEASE make sure to call in any transportation changes before 1 pm. The end of the day is VERY hectic at an elementary school and it is important that we are aware of any changes before then. We also encourage you to send in a note on the day of a transportation change as well.
