Principal's Message
Dear Families and Students,
As always, I hope everyone had another wonderful week! As our Thanksgiving Break begins today we wanted to share with you a few wonderful items and reminders!
As a reminder, Orlando Science Schools will be closed next week due to the Thanksgiving Break, we will re-open on Monday, November 26th, 2018 at 7:30 AM. Our Parent Teacher Conference Nights will also begin the week we return from break, for more information please see below.
I would like to thank everyone who donated or volunteered at our Annual Staff Thanksgiving Feast, it was a huge success and we are so grateful for all that you do!
Orcas join us on Tuesday, December 11th, 2018 for our Annual Orlando Science Schools Holiday Concert at the Orlando Rep from 5:30-8: 00 PM. We are also pleased to announce that our Science Olympiad team placed at the Georgia Invitational this past weekend. We are so proud of their hard work and this outstanding accomplishment, keep it up!
Lynx Lane Orcas also participated in the Annual City of Orlando's Veterans Day Parade this past Saturday as well! We would like to thank everyone who volunteered and attended this wonderful event!
I would also like to take this time to congratulate Mr. Koebe on being selected as our October Teacher of the Month. Mr. Koebe was nominated by his fellow colleagues for always going above and beyond. Congratulations again Mr. Koebe!
8th Grade Families, be sure to mark your calendars for Thursday, November 29th, 2018 for our annual High School Special Programs Night. Please be sure to review all the information found in this week's newsletter and the RSVP link.

We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to our OSS PVO Team for providing a wonderful "Thanksgiving Feast" for our staff. We are so grateful for all that you do!
Re-Enrollment for the 2019-2020 School Year!
Re-Enrollment submissions will be taking place online this year. Please read all information carefully and complete the form at the following link no later than FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2018.
All current students will need to have a response. If this form is not submitted by the deadline on November 30, 2018, your student may lose his/her spot at Orlando Science Schools for the next school year.
This form can be completed on any computer or mobile device. *Please do not reply to this email requesting confirmation. You will receive an on-screen confirmation if your submission was successful.
As a reminder, the Re-Enrollment form contains the following sections:
- RE-ENROLLMENT FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: A separate form must be submitted for EACH student that is currently attending and would like to return. Check the appropriate box to indicate whether your student will be returning for the 2019-2020 school year.
- PRE-ENROLLMENT REQUEST FOR NEW (NOT CURRENT) SIBLINGS: If applicable, submit the siblings’ information and submit an Online Application for each sibling listed. If space is available to enroll the sibling(s) listed, you will be contacted via email with instructions on how to complete the enrollment process once a spot becomes available. If the number of siblings exceeds the number of seats available, a sibling lottery may be held. Please note: siblings are given preference, but immediate enrollment cannot be guaranteed if we are already at capacity.
Student Immunization and Verification of Residence must be up-to-date for Re-Enrollment submissions to be complete.
Science Olympiad Team Places at Georgia Invitational
Two of the OSS Science Olympiad teams have participated in an Invitational tournament in Georgia on Saturday, November 10th. Our teams have proudly represented Orlando Science Schools competing against 46 teams from several states. Many of those teams are well-established and have qualified to Nationals several times in the past. Our teams have brought home the 3rd place trophy in overall. In addition, many students got individual medals in their respective events. We are thrilled with this outstanding result! They had a great team spirit and showed incredible support for each other. Please congratulate them on their remarkable achievements!
City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade 2018
On Saturday, November 10th 2018, members of the Orlando Science Middle and High School and Seminole Science Elementary School gathered in downtown Orlando for the annual Veterans Day Parade. Our Orlando Science Seniors carried the banner, it was a great event to be a part of and all the students had an excellent experience meeting veterans and even having an exclusive meeting and greet with Mayor-Elect Jerry Demings and his wife Congresswoman Val Demings. We are very proud of our students who participated. Congrats ORCAS!

2018 October Teacher of the Month
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Koebe has been selected as our October Teacher of the Month! Mr.Koebe was nominated by his fellow colleagues for always going above and beyond and assisting when needed. Mr. Koebe always says hello to everyone and his positive attitude is contagious to those he encounters. Thank you Mr. Koebe for all that you do and congratulations!
Sign Up for a 2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Night Appointment today!
2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Nights will take place during dates and times posted below. Sign Ups will take place beginning on the time and dates listed below. Please be advised OSS Staff Members are not permitted to sign up for a PTC for our Orca Families, so we ask that you please plan accordingly. We ask that once links are provided you read through the information carefully before selecting a time slot. Parents and Guardians may always email their student's teachers to make an appointment to meet that do not fall within these conference nights. Once spots are filled please email your student's teachers to arrange an appointment for another date and time, no additional spots will be added to these nights. There will be no wait list created, please check back for canceled time slots. Please be advised dates and times can change, and we will notify you via the weekly newsletter if they do.

Sign Ups began on Sunday, November 11th, 2018 at 7 PM. Please review all the information above and in the link below. Time slots are listed in DATE order and then by GRADE LEVEL. It is very important to read ALL the information.
8th Grade Parents: High School Special Program Night
Dear Parents and Students,
Orlando Science College Center is organizing High School Programs Night on Thursday, November 29th at 5:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to learn about what Orlando Science High School is offering for an outstanding high school experience and college preparation. We will have a guest speaker, Christina Ta who is alumni of Orlando Science (Class of 2018) and Freshman at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She will share her experience at Orlando Science High School and MIT. You will be able to find detailed information about high school planning, course pathways, and the following programs:
- Orlando Science PLTW Engineering Program (OSEP)
- Orlando Science PLTW Biomedical Sciences Program (OSBP)
- Orlando Science Cybersecurity Program (OSCP)
- Orlando Science Legal and Business Studies Program (OSLP)
- Orlando Science Advanced Placement Academy (OSAP)
- Orlando Science Dual Enrollment Program (OSDP)

Osceola Science Charter Now Enrolling Osceola & Orange County K-8 Students for 2019-2020 School Year
Congratulations to Osceola Science Charter School on their move to a new campus! The K-8 school is relocating to a brand-new facility on the border of Osceola and Orange counties for the 2019-2020 school year.
The new, 70,000-square-foot campus features STEM and science labs, a media center, music classroom, performing arts lab, regular classrooms, a playground, basketball court, and football field.
Parents, please help spread the word among your community that Osceola Science Charter School (OSCS) is now accepting applications for Grades K-8 for the 2019-2020 school year. Details, including the Online Application and Open House dates, can be found on the school’s website: www.osceolascience.org.

OCPS Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Introduces Code of Conduct Videos
Orlando Science Families,
The video topics and links are as follows:
• Buying/distributing/selling drugs on campus
• Bringing weapons on campus
• Sexual harassment
To reinforce the message delivered by these videos, OSS will show these videos to middle/high school teachers and students once per quarter in homeroom classes on these dates:
- Q1: October 2nd 2018
- Q2: October 30th 2018
- Q3: January 15th 2019
- Q4: April 2nd 2019
Registration Open for Orange County Math Tournament!
The Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society of Orlando Science High School invites all 4th and 5th grade Orange County students to compete at the Orange County Math Tournament (OCMT) to be held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018.
Registration is now open! If you would like to register your student for this year's Invitational, visit the Registration page and fill out the form with your student's information. Registration will be available until Monday, December 3rd, 2018.
Registration must be completed online at our website www.ossmualphatheta.com no later than Monday, December 3rd, 2018. Registration fee is $15 for each student and should be paid online via School Pay. The competition is open to first 250 students who applied.
The competition will take place at Orlando Science Elementary School campus which is located at 2601 Technology Drive, Orlando FL 32804.

Operation stock the library Book Drive Continues!
We would like to thank everyone once more for donating to the Lynx Lane Operation Stock the Library Book Drive. We have received so many fantastic donations and our shelves are becoming filled, we could not have done this without you!
Congratulations to the Fordham Family, you have been selected as the winner of our $25 Barnes and Nobel Gift Card for the 1st quarter!
Since our first Book Drive was such a huge success we will host another from Monday, October 8th 2018 until Friday, December 14th 2018. For those that you donated during our first Book Drive, you will still be eligible to win the 2nd Book Drive!

Orcas who walk or take the Lynx Bus transportation must have "Walker/Bus Rider" form on file. If you need form you may find it below. Students must sign out at the front office before leaving school each day.

Join the OSS Parent Volunteer Organization!
Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,
It is time, once again, to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.
If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.
