MST Weekly Update
February 10, 2023
What a difference a week makes. 7 days ago, we closed school because of frigid temperatures that dropped below zero, today it is 50 degrees as I am writing this (more than a 60-degree difference).
We are now into the 3rd quarter and all students need to be making sure that they are caught up on past work and keeping up with new work as it is assigned. With the February and April vacations ahead, the end of the year comes very quickly. 9th graders need to understand that they will not be promoted to 10th grade if they do not complete the required 4 credit minimum. Seniors need to make sure that all of their graduation requirements are met in order to participate in the graduation ceremony on June 17th.
2nd Quarter Report Cards
2nd quarter report cards were distributed to students on Monday 2/6. They are also uploaded to Aspen for viewing.
When you are looking at the Q2 report card, you should see a 2 or greater in the second column for one or more competencies. This indicates that progress is being made. The comment should also indicate that as well. If there are all 1s and/or a comment saying that progress is not being made, that is showing you that your child needs to work much harder to get caught up and earn credit by June. An example of a report card showing progress is shown below.
An Evening of Entertainment
On Friday February 17th at 6:00 PM, the Junior Class is sponsoring an evening of music and entertainment at the MST Coffee House. Tickets are on sale now for $5.00 and will be sold during the school lunch periods next week.
High School Course Selection
MST students in 9th-11th grade will be selecting their courses for the 2023-24 school year during the week of February 13th-17th. All selections will be done using Aspen. Teachers will be providing recommendations next week (2/6-2/10).
Here is a link to the newly released High School Course Catalog. MST High School courses start on page 96. 9th graders will also be choosing their first CTE program (described on pages 28-37). 10th and 11th graders can select a second CTE if they wish.
A Google Meet will be held on Tuesday February 14th at 10:00 for any parents who have scheduling questions. Here is a link for the Google Meet. meet.google.com/ucb-cwmf-dxe
If you have a child in 8th grade who wishes to attend MST High School as a full-time student, please fill out the application below and have your child's middle school counselor sign it. Applications are due by February 17th.
College Fair 2023
MST will be hosting a College Fair in the Brennan Center on Wednesday February 22nd from 9:00-1:30. More than 40 colleges will be in attendance as well as recruiters from the military and the City Year program. this is a great opportunity for our students to meet with college representatives and recruiters to start planning for their future.
Free Chromebooks Available for Home Use
If we have any additional snow days this winter, they will likely be designated as remote instruction days and students will need to have a computer at home with internet access. The Manchester School District wants to ensure that every student has the technology needed to complete schoolwork at home. Thanks to the federal government's Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF), we were able to purchase Chromebooks to send home with families to keep students connected.
These Chromebooks are different from those used in school – the idea is that these would stay at home with students for use there. Since we understand that families often have multiple students who need computer access, families can request one device for each student.
The devices are available for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Students can keep the devices as long as they are attending school in our district. If you are interested in getting a device for your student, you must contact your student's school and let them know you would like an ECF Chromebook.
Graduation Time Set
MST's graduation for the Class of 2023 will be at 8:00 AM on June 17th at the SNHU arena. Doors will open at 7:40 AM. Tickets will not be required for this event, so there is no limit on the number of guests that you can invite.
