Vaccines & Volunteers
November 3, 2021
Dear Families,
Last weekend the PTA hosted a Trunk or Treat at Blue Heron. Check out the photos of our creative community focused on the joy of children. This newsletter includes information on vaccines for ages 5-11 and volunteer opportunities for families.
COVID Vaccine Pediatric Clinics
The Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management is hosting a vaccination clinic for students ages 5-11:
Saturday, November 13 at Blue Heron Middle School 9 am - 12 noon.
All students ages 5 - 11 can receive the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
The clinic will be staffed by nurses with pediatric experience.
They will host another clinic December 4 for second doses.
Sign up at https://prepmod.doh.wa.gov//appointment/en/reg/2512296074 or call 360-344-9791
If you can’t make the November 13 date, you can sign up here for the clinic on November 20 at the Chimacum School District Multi-Purpose Building, 91 W. Valley Road. Note that pediatric clinics cannot provide vaccines to anyone 12 and over because the dosage is different. You can find vaccine appointment information for all ages at https://jeffersoncountypublichealth.org/1529/COVID-19-Vaccine
We encourage all families to have their children vaccinated to avoid missed school time and activities. Vaccines work to stop the spread of the virus and reduce the chances of death. Washington State’s Department of Health recently released data showing that unvaccinated people are much more likely to get COVID-19 and be hospitalized compared to vaccinated people. You can see the full report here.
Family Volunteers
We’ve heard interest from families in supporting our students during lunch and recess. If you would like to volunteer to be another responsible adult present at recess and lunch, please follow the steps below. Blue Heron is also looking for volunteers for crossing guards before and after school and math and reading supports during the day.
Complete the district’s volunteer process by following the links here. Please be sure to read the District Volunteer Protocol & Policies and District Volunteer Handbook. If you have any questions, you can contact Carrie Baxter at the Gael Stuart building or via email or phone CBaxter@PTSchools.org (360) 379-4511
All Volunteers are required to provide proof of their COVID Vaccination before they can volunteer. Please email a snapshot of your COVID card to Carrie Baxter.
Once you have completed the process and received your volunteer card in the mail, schedule your first day by emailing:
