Senator Elena Parent visits GLOBE

Today, Senator Elena Parent visited GLOBE's Upper Campus. She learned more about GLOBE's mission and our dual language immersion programs. We are grateful for her visit and continued support for the funding of charter schools.

GLOBE Trot is coming up fast on Oct 22

We’ve raised over $25,000 towards our goal of $140,000. Let’s keep the momentum and get to 100% participation to get Kona Ice during the event. Any amount counts towards participation, so call your friends and family and ask them to support your GLOBE student(s). Everyone gets a 2021 GLOBE Trot buff, and don’t miss out on some awesome prizes, including ticket packages to Zoo Atlanta or to the Atlanta United soccer match on Oct 27.

Visit the event website for more information.

Lower Campus notes

Thank you to all the families and faculty who volunteered their time to help decorate for Hispanic Heritage Month which comes to a close this Friday. Also, the Art Festival features art that hangs along the staircase near the back carpool area. Please visit our facebook and instagram pages to view images of all the fantastic artwork. There will be a parade on Friday, photos of which will be taken and posted online for parents.

Masks: Always carry a spare. Ensure it's a good fit and covers both mouth and nose.
Parking: Avoid parking on Briarwillow Dr. It makes pedestrian crossing especially difficult.

Upper Campus notes

Our GLOBE 5th graders wrote biographies about prominent and influential people of hispanic heritage. Teachers will be sending out videos to showcase how we celebrated and learned about Hispanic culture and heritage in classrooms.

Middle School 1st Quarter Progress Reports will be available in Infinite Campus. Grades will all be finalized by the end of the day, Oct 15. Parents should make sure they are looking at Term 1-1 for Progress Report grades. These grades capture a moment in time, and will continue to be updated through the end of the term.

Briarcliff Road crossing: We ask that parents of AM walkers escort your student(s) all the way to the crosswalk/traffic light and ensure they use the crossing safely. Yellow flags are available to assist students in crossing this dangerous intersection safely. It is unlawful and unsafe to cross in the middle of the block. Please stay safe.

Breakfast: Served from 7:30am to 7:55am, students wishing to eat breakfast at school should arrive early enough to complete their meal within the allotted time.

GLOBE Sports roundup

Volleyball ended their season 7-3 this year. We are extremely proud of the players and coaches. Congratulations on a great season. Boy’s soccer is currently in 3rd place and looking good to make the playoffs. Semi-final game will be Tuesday, Oct 19 and finals on Oct 21. Teams to be decided. Go Owls!

Communicating with GLOBE

There are several ways we communicate with GLOBE families, and we are continuing to work to improve their effectiveness. In addition to this newsletter, be sure the channels below are on your radar.

  • Weekly teacher emails: Every Friday, you will receive an email from each of your child's teachers, with details on what they're doing at school. Not receiving these? Please let us know. (You can of course email the teachers with any questions, too.)
  • Remind text alerts: Remind is a service that we use to send time-sensitive alerts via text message. (There's also an app available.) If you haven't yet signed up for this, please do so by texting @globers to 81010 for whole school updates.

For Upper Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @ucgl

For Lower Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @lcgl

  • GLOBE website: This is a go-to source for enduring information. (There's a search option in the top right corner to make it easier to find what you need.)
  • GLOBE Facebook page: Don't use social media? No problem. While we know Facebook is useful for many, any critical information shared here will also be shared on other channels.

Board of Directors meetings

All meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the community. You can find the full calendar of board meetings here. In advance of each meeting, the board will publish the meeting agenda and issue a call for public comments, and after each meeting, minutes and a video link to the meeting will be shared.

GLOBE's governing board comprises volunteers who lead committees focused on Academics, Communication, Development, Diversity, Facilities, Finance, and Strategic Planning; this year, a committee will also convene to renew GLOBE's charter. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact board chair Ryan Hudak.
