Library Book Pick-up on Oct. 7, 2 - 4pm
The first drive-through library book pick-up at Ewing Young will be next Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 4 PM. This will be a trial run, with families who choose to participate in receiving one library book per student.
Students can go to the library resources section on their clever page, select library lessons, and find a step-by-step guide to accessing the school library digital catalog. This will explain how to place holds on books they are interested in.
Mr. Mariman will then look for one of these books to have ready for pick-up. Please place holds by Monday evening to allow for processing time.
You can also drop off books during these Wednesday time slots. If you have any books from last year please return them so other students can place holds on them.
A quick tip: Placing just one or two popular books on hold gives you a lower chance of getting one, but placing 4 to 6 holds on a variety of books gives you a very good chance to get one that you want.
Distance Learning Google Meets Reminders
A few tips that we want to remind all of our students and adults.
When we are on a live Google meet, please be aware of everything in your child’s proximity because everyone on our Google meet can see each other and their backgrounds. To help, you may consider organizing a spot for learning where your student has their back to a wall.
When your child is not on mute, we can hear everything around the student, even if they have headphones on. Although you can’t hear us, we can hear you. Sometimes these conversations may be of a personal nature or not exactly 'G' rated.
It is ideal to have a student login to their computer for live sessions 5-10 minutes early so they can Join the Meeting right on time. Help them to review any messages from their teachers. Be sure they have eaten breakfast or a snack and a glass of water and have them use the restroom.
We know your home is not the classroom and it is difficult to virtually have all of us in your home. Keeping a calm learning environment is helpful to everyone, especially students.
Mark your calendar's!!! We will have our Online Book Fair Oct. 19 - Nov. 1
School Supplies
We have school supplies to help you with distance learning. Call the office to arrange a time to stop by the school and pick up things your family needs to make distance learning as successful as possible.
We keep all requests for assistance confidential and are happy to help.

Attendance
At the beginning of each live lesson, the school office will call home to any students not yet on their live lesson. We know that there are many reasons a child may not be logged in and we want to be sure that we can help in every way we can.
At the end of the school day, we will be sending out attendance calls to give you a heads up, so if your child hasn't been online you might be able to work with them in the afternoon/evening.
We know that things are going to come up, and we also know that good attendance leads to great outcomes.

Chromebook, Hotspot, and System Technical Support
If you experience any technical issues with your devices or systems, please call 503-554-5044 or helpdesk@newberg.k12.or.us. One thing to remember is that hotspots can handle only so much bandwidth. Please use Chromebooks or devices used for school on the hotspots. Playing games, listening to music or streaming can cause additional connectivity issues. Please be sure your student has access to the hotspot for school purposes only and that will clear up a lot of internet connectivity trouble.
We appreciate your patience and grace as we all settle into this unique school year.
