District Update - April 30

Superintendent's Message
You can really feel the energy on campus as we enter the final month of the school year! I truly believe our Midview community is the best around, and the work that our faculty, students, and families have put in to make this year a success has been extremely inspiring.
Nothing shows this more than the turnout at our Staff Appreciation parade! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate together and a huge shout-out to Jordane Breha, Jacqui Rozanski, and Bianca Gentile (and countless others) for organizing such a great event!
The end of the school year provides a ton of memories and includes many fun activities, like field days and graduation. This year, however, the month of May holds additional significance for the Midview community because of the May 2 election. As a final reminder,
The need for this substitute levy stems from two emergency levies expiring at the end of 2023. These two existing levies generate $6.2 million annually for the district.
Issue 4 is NOT A NEW TAX on current residents. However, the substitute levy does enable revenue growth on new construction within the district.
Midview School District has been fiscally responsible. The 2013 expiring emergency levy is the only new operating money the district has received from the community in the last 30 years.
We are committed to continuing that fiscal responsibility and ensuring our schools remain excellent places for student learning and growth. The Issue 4 levy will generate $6.2 million for school operations for the next ten years, one-sixth of our total annual operating budget.
The funding we receive from the levy's passage in May will cover day-to-day operations. The funds will ensure that we can continue to provide high-quality programming, maintain safe and secure schools and attract and retain excellent staff.
In the face of a levy failure, the district will be forced to reassess budgets, and the district will implement a reduction plan for the 2023-2024 school year, to address operating expenditures. Another levy, likely at a higher rate, would be proposed in the near future.
We are excited by the direction in which our district is moving and are extremely grateful for all who have not only supported our efforts but have also contributed to the success of the campaign. Please remember your vote is important as we strive to ensure our district can continue providing meaningful educational experiences. Every vote matters!
Take care,
Dr. Willingham
