FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
2023-24 - Elementary Schedule Update
CSD’s Enhanced Elementary Schedule was approved by our Board of School Directors at the Committee of the Whole meeting on April 25, 2023. This schedule change is effective beginning Thursday, August 24, 2023, the first day of the 2023-2024 school year.
A committee met throughout the school year and used a design thinking framework to identify opportunities to improve our elementary schedule and provide better student outcomes. The committee finalized a proposal for an upgraded elementary schedule, which was then presented to the board's Education Committee and finally the entire school board. The process also included parental feedback using our ThoughtExchange system.
An informational presentation for parents and guardians will be held at 7:00 p.m. on May 25, 2023, in the William Tennent High School auditorium. This presentation will share the exciting improvements CSD is making to support our youngest learners, including:
- A better balance of academics, fun, and brain breaks throughout the school day.
- A structured academic intervention period to provide students with mathematics and reading intervention (extension, rehearsal, remediation) based on their individual needs.
- Dedicated time for community building (morning meeting, quiet time, and closing circle).
- A shortened student day which was accomplished by moving the start time from 8:45 am to 9:00 am. This will affect the student morning drop-off time which will move from 8:25 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
This sample student schedule provides a visual representation of these schedule upgrades. Please remember that the class sequence will vary by grade level when reviewing the sample schedule.

National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day
Tuesday, April 25th was National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Thank you to all over of our hardworking bus drivers, who give their all every day!
National Library Week
We want to say thank you and job well done to all our CSD Librarians, support staff, and volunteers who work in our libraries. Libraries are full of stories in a variety of formats from picture books to large print, audiobooks to ebooks, and more. But there's so much more to the story. Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, and lectures. Library infrastructure advances communities, providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs.
Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta senior Andrei Makarski organized a session to help freshmen prepare for their Algebra Keystone assessment. Other members of the math honor society were on hand to assist and guide the students.
Design Lab Students
Under the direction of WT High School teachers Ignacio Jayo and Rena Friedant, students partnered with the Fox Chase Cancer Center to create a marketing campaign informing adolescents about the dangers of skin cancer. Their aim was to educate and implement a curriculum for students in elementary school showing them a method of self-screening in terms that are simple for them to understand. With this idea, skin cancer prevention will become more widely known and will decrease rates of skin cancer (catching it early on) and through this, send more patients in for screening at our partner's company. WT students connected with Mr. Matthew Weisensale, a Health and PE teacher at McDonald Elementary school and Elementary Instructional Coach Nick D'Andrea where 5th graders completed the initial survey. Then, WT students ran a mock lesson on April 28th implementing their curriculum during Health special.
The Name Initiative
This past week, WTHS students collaborated with Unionville High School students on The Name Initiative. This project educates people on the correct pronunciation of names. The goal is to promote a sense of belonging and respect each other's cultural identity. Student representatives from Equity Club Voices for Change, along with Mrs. McCaffery and Mrs. Moody hope to bring this initiative to CSD.
Achievement Breakfast
On Friday, April 21, select students were honored during Log College’s 3rd Quarter Achievement Breakfast. Students are nominated by their teachers for demonstrating achievement, growth, or contributions to the school and/or community. Congratulations!
The 8th Annual Behind the Lens Film Festival
The 8th Annual Behind the Lens Film Festival will be held in the WHTS Auditorium on Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. The red-carpet entrance begins at 6:30 p.m. The opening will feature performances from the WT Jazz Ensemble and the Madrigals. The evening will feature the screening of student films and awards. Tickets are $5 at the door.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL & ACADEMIC LEARNING (SEAL)
Supporting Middle School Students' Social and Emotional Wellness
Last week, as part of the social, emotional, and academic wellness programming in our middle schools, teachers and students considered who or what lifts them up and helps them to see the good in themselves. Responses were added to individual feathers to create an uplifting mural which reminds students and staff that prioritizing what lifts us up is a key piece of our mental health and wellness.
Supporting Faculty Social-Emotional Wellness
Throughout this school year, many faculty members participated in "Educator Social-Emotional Wellness" professional learning sessions held throughout the district. These sessions are meant to build faculty and leadership awareness of the stressors that can contribute to compassion fatigue and practice coping strategies to foster resilience. Most recently, members of Klinger faculty connected with one another and tried out sensory and cognitive regulation tools.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT (ELD)/INCLUSIVE PRACTICES
Putting the Pedal to the Metal (works)
Students from William Tennent High School visited the brand new metal works facility at one of the Bucks County Community campuses. They learned about welding, machinery, and HVAC systems using state of the art technology and virtual reality. The Bucks County Community College offers several pathways to learning during and beyond high school with their Center for Advanced Technologies and Center for Workforce Development. Flower Power
Mrs. Crounse of McDonald Elementary had her students create violets to raise awareness about childhood cancer. Their flowers were decorated with positive messages of love and hope for those fighting a courageous battle. Thank you, McDonald Bulldogs for your kindness and support!
