Mr. Posick's Friday email

The state-wide Forward Exams started this Monday. 5th, 6th, and 7th graders finished up this week. There are only 2 days left for testing for our 8th graders, next Monday and Tuesday. Our students and staff have done a great job with our massively adjusted schedule this last week. I have mentioned this to the students in our daily announcements, but I thought you should all know, too.

We were so happy to see the great turnout for our Parent Tech Talk. Dr. Royster and Officer Steen provided some incredible information and lots to think about. The evening was digitally taped and will be posted on our website soon. The presentations will also be found on our website soon. Our students have already heard from Sheriff Kelly in December about information Officer Steen shared. Dr. Royster will be speaking to our students some time in the month of May.

Tuesday, April 10th, Oconomowoc Area School District and Parents United are showing the movie Angst, a movie that explores anxiety , its causes, effects, and what we can do about it. This is free, but you need to register to attend. Here is the link for registration.

We hope that you will come and see the Merton Theater Company's presentation of High School Musical Junior. Dates of the show are Friday, April 20th at 7PM and Saturday, April 21st at 2PM and 7PM. Tickets will also be sold on March 13th, the night of our mid-winter choir and band concerts.

On Monday, March 19th the 7th and 8th grade Symphonic Band performed at a Wisconsin School Music Association Concert Group Festival. The event took place at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. There was a collection of intermediate and high schools who participated and schools could enter class A, B, C, or M. This year we took a step forward and entered the C class. The band received a First Division award. The 3 judges unanimously agreed on this rating. The judge who gave us a quick clinic and had great things to say about the band said, "You sound as good as any middle school band that I have heard, and that you play like a much larger group which shows maturity." This is a huge accomplishment and Mr. Jupp is really proud if our students, and so am I.

Merton Community School District will be hosting a half day career event on Thursday, May 24 , 2018. The event will take place between 8:30 - 11:30 at Merton Intermediate School for all students in 6th-8th grades. We are seeking professionals to participate in either of the following options that day:

1. Speaking to students during 25 minute sessions about your career and highlighting the opportunities of your career field or company.

2. Conducting Mock-Interviews with 6th - 8th grade students using provided questions. One of the rotations will be students practicing a real interview. Questions will be supplied and kids will be ready as well! Anyone willing can do this part!

We are hoping to give students an opportunity to explore a wide variety of career fields, so please consider sharing your time and expertise with our students!
