GETTING CONNECTED WITH CBC YOUTH

Thanks for visiting and checking us out. We wanted to give you a chance to know more about us so that if you do decide to join, you kinda understand who we are, what we do, and where we're going.

We understand that committing to a church is tough and awkward like any other relationship but here are a few things we promise:

1. We're not perfect. At all. In fact, we're probably very far from that...and we believe that's a good thing. It means that we still have a long way to go in terms of programs, people, and baggage. But this leads us to #2.

2. We promise to always move forward. We hope to always learn from our mistakes, learn from other churches and resources, and learn together. While we're not perfect, we strive to always grow deeper...but there's a reason for this and that's #3.

3. Our foundation and hope is Jesus and his Good News. We believe that while you see the programs, you see the people, and you see the other stuff, what really drives us is the real living Jesus. We aren't perfect but we trust that He is. We move forward to conform our youth group more and more like Jesus because he's our foundation.

Youth praise is scheduled on every first Sunday of the month during the SS hour. Our purpose in having youth praise is to give our students a time where they can gather corporately for teaching, worship, and fellowship. This is really the only time during the month where everyone is together for an extended period of time.

The teaching time is designed to inform and direct the spiritual temperature for the month. This is mainly done through the youth pastor or designated leaders. In addition, our student worship team and program team leads our youth in activity and song. This method also allows our DG leaders to take a break and join their own sunday school for the week.

DGs take place every Sunday from 11:15-12:30pm with the exception of the first Sunday.

A community group is our understanding of what inter-connected youth ministry ought to look like. It is based off the understanding that the Gospel creates community based solely on the fact that Jesus brings people together. A Discipleship Group (DG) is made of a small, same gender group that is divided between middle school and high school. The DG is lead by a youth leader and college sponsor.

WHAT IS THE GOAL? The goal is to have all of our youth cared for. Discipleship groups allows our members to care for and be cared on by each other and other members of the church. The goal of each discipleship group is to make sure that each person in the group has a safe space to share about their lives, struggles, thoughts, doubts, and needs. The goal is to foster discipleship of believers into maturity and witness to non believers through word and example while they look at the beauty of community groups.

We meet every friday night from 7:00-9:30pm in the chapel. ACCESS is our weekly gathering as a youth ministry. We use this program to continue to deepen our spiritual growth, gospel-centered community, and gospel-centered truth. While Discipleship Groups (DGs) focus more on smaller, intentional discipleship, ACCESS tries to integrate the youth altogether as well as focusing on specific areas of growth for each of the youth. We combine the fellowship, worship, and teaching aspects of our core values during ACCESS.

CBC YOUTH exists to glorify God by making disciples of all people through Gospel truths and Gospel living. Our hope is to equip all youth to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind as well as loving their neighbor, community, and church.

Our youth ministry serves students 6th grade to 12th grade as well as to their families. Chinese Baptist Church is primarily a commuter church, which means that families and members of the church drive away from their place of residence in order to worship and serve at CBC. This creates great challenges but also great rewards for our ministry. For one, our students are represented from every major school district within the greater Houston area. We generally reach out and minister to second generation Asian-Americans, our ministry welcomes every and all people from different backgrounds, lifestyles, communities, and baggage.
