Popsicles on the Playground is THIS WEEK! Popsicles on the Playground is THIS WEEK!

Mondays are Great Days!

Happy Monday Nixon Families,

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and maybe you even watched a bit of football and rooted for your favorite Iowa team! Here is our weekly newsletter for September 11-15.

  • Expectation Celebration #1: Friday, September 15 we will be holding our first celebration of the year for learners with 0 office referrals! Our first celebration is a visit from the Hiawatha Fire Department to cool our learners off with some fun water play! Send your child to school with their swimsuit, a towel, and an extra bag to put their wet items in after water play is done. In order to play in the water, learners MUST have a swimsuit!!!! I'll be sure to post pictures on the Nixon Facebook page to show all the fun.

  • Attendance Information: If your child is going to be gone from school, please call our health office and let them know (319) 558-2190. If you forget to call in, you have 2 days to let us know before your child is considered unexcused. We count unexcused hours, which can lead to attendance contracts and meetings, so please be sure to call in if your child is not going to be at school (or is going to be late coming in).

  • Picture Day: Mark your calendars! Our fall picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th. More information will be coming closer to picture day.

  • Binders Back to School! If you have a 2nd-5th grader and you were asked to bring that 3-ring binder home, we'd love to see that come back to Nixon this week. We are beginning to set up our Data Binders where we will store exemplars of our work, our goal setting documents, and organize our work to showcase at our Learner-Led Conferences in October. Not sure if you left a binder at school? Reach out to your child's teacher to find out!

  • Handbook Received Note: Please don't forget to sign and send back the green sheet of paper that was sent home last week. This indicates that you have received access to our electronic handbook. It is mandatory that the school share our handbook and we have confirmation that you have received it. Teachers will begin reaching out if they have not gotten your green sheet back next week. A copy of the note can be found at the end of this newsletter. Thank you for your help with this!

It's a great day to be a Bobcat!
