Kudos From Kim Weber, Instructional Director
See below for the feedback Kim Weber, Director, left after visiting Riley. She was very complimentary of our staff.
Good Afternoon, LaShell…
I just wanted to send you a quick email, thanking you for taking me through all of the classrooms today and sharing your “Riley Essentials” and school goals. I really enjoyed learning about your school and seeing your students and staff in action. I had an opportunity at Back to School Night to see some of the great interactions between parents and teachers, setting a very positive the tone for the year. Today’s visit confirmed for me that everyone on your campus (including VIPS, office staff, classroom teacher, tech aide and support staff) are there to provide students with a great learning experience.
When we walked today, I saw strong evidence of teachers using Learning Targets with success criteria. There was consistency in format within grade levels and across the school. I really appreciated seeing the different grade levels’ implementation of this “Riley Essential”. There was also evidence of teachers collaborating around lessons and encouraging students to be accountable for their learning. Not only were expectations for behavior high, but the students were engaged in goal setting activities that integrated the use of technology (another “Riley Essential”).
Finally, you shared with me that developing the students’ growth mindset, specifically in ways that will address the question “My intelligence is something that I can’t change very much” is a new area of focus and that your Safe and Civil Team presented just yesterday. I was so impressed to see that many teachers had already incorporated some strategies into their lessons and room environment.
I truly enjoyed learning about your school today and look forward to this year together. If there is anything I can do to support your work, please let me know.
Have a great weekend!
Kim
