SHS Weekly Update

SHS Engineering III/IV Team came back from the Western Regional KidWind Challenge with a First Place Trophy in the High School Wind Division! SHS has two Wind and two Solar Teams headed to State Competition at JMU on April 8!

Brett Endrusick (Windsor) and Liam Wilson (Smithfield) represented Isle of Wight County by taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the District SkillsUSA Welding Contest. Brett will be competing in this year’s Virginia SkillsUSA Competition at Tidewater Tech on 4/22! Good Luck Brett!

Natalie Kramer (Smithfield High School) won’t be outdone! Welding pipe like a boss with GMAW (MIG).

The SHS Beta Club inducted new ninth grade members on Monday, 3/27. Congratulations to these high achieving students who are already serving their community with our club!

Choral students from Carrollton Elementary School, Hardy Elementary School, Smithfield Middle School and Smithfield High School participated in a pyramid concert on Thursday, March 30.

The educational purpose of this contest is to give high school students enrolled in Isle of Wight County Schools an opportunity to express their artistic talent through the art of storytelling based on specific themes. The project will benefit and bring awareness to the Prolific Place Community Garden and the StormWater Retention System in Windsor Castle Park. See the link below for more information.

Attention parents/guardians for ninth and tenth grade students currently enrolled in Health/PE 9 or Health/Driver Ed./PE 10: We will be conducting our unit on Family Life Education in the upcoming weeks. Please review the attached materials and contact your student's instructor if you have any questions. You may opt our child out of this lesson by completing the corresponding form and submitting to the school

The Summer High School Transportation Institute (STI) is an enriching educational opportunity for rising high school juniors and seniors. Since its first STI program in 1993, N.C. A&T’s Transportation Institute has introduced hundreds of high school students to careers and academic pursuits in transportation.

The 2023 Summer Transportation Institute will take place from July 9th-July 23rd, 2023. The program will be residential, so students will live on campus for two weeks and get a taste of the Aggie experience, including dorm life, campus food, recreational facilities, and more. The program is completely free, including food, lodging, and travel. Apply today!
