From the Principal's Desk
December 7, 2020
Hello Fabulous FWAFA Families -
I want to thank everyone for their support in our efforts to keep everyone healthy. This past week we have continued to improve upon our social distancing efforts. Teachers have re-examined their room set up and have worked to maximize the spacing between students where possible. We are also continuing to remain vigiliant about handwashing/santizing and disinfecting high touch surfaces between classes.
As a reminder, please check in with your student each morning to determine whether she or he is experiencing any of the following symptoms. If so, please remain at home and reach out to our nurse Kay Armstrong at kay.armstrong@fwafa.org.
Check in with your child each morning for the following signs of illness:
☐ Fever (100.4 or greater) or chills
☐ New loss of taste or smell
☐ New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (students with chronic
allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in cough from usual)
☐ Flu-like Symptoms: Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, unusual fatigue, significant muscle pain or body aches
☐ Severe headache
☐ Sore throat
☐ Diarrhea
☐ Nausea or vomiting
☐ Close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last two
weeks (within 6 feet of infected person for at least 15 cumulative minutes)
Although lately the messages that you have received from me are COVID-19-related, this week I am happy to be sharing lots of congratulations to our amazing students and exciting events that are happening at our school. Take a look!
Creatively yours,
Dr. Jennifer Jackson
Congratulations to Jackson Layton, FWAFA Thespian President
Congratulations to FWAFA Thespian President Jackson Layton on being selected to serve a second term as State Thespian Officer for Texas Thespians!
Jackson was chosen along with 19 other Thespian leaders from throughout the state. He served as Social Media Chair for 2019-2020, and was integral in planning for the very first Virtual Texas Thespian State Festival, which included over 4,200 participants from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Idaho, and Louisiana!
In addition, Jackson helped create the new Texas Thespian Leadership Academy for troupe officers. We are so proud of Jackson’s leadership for both FWAFA and Texas Thespians!
Friday, December 11: Welcome to the 60s!
Streaming for a limited time only, Welcome to the 60s is a Theatrical Revue, featuring musical numbers, skits, and more either from or set during the 1960’s. Each act has been chosen and produced specifically with the pandemic in-mind, utilizing outdoor spaces, social-distancing, and masks, when needed.
In lieu of a traditional, on-stage performance, FWAFA is working with a professional crew of videographers, guest choreographers and directors to film and produce a full-length, high-quality, virtual performance for all to enjoy.
Part of the TCA+A Performing Arts Series, Welcome to the 60s is one of three premiere, auditioned high school theatre productions for the 2020-2021 season. While this show is produced by the Theatre Department, any FWAFA high school student is welcome to audition, which creates a diverse cast of performers from all fine arts backgrounds.
At Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, we pride ourselves on providing students with high-quality fine arts training and performance opportunities.
This year has been uniquely challenging due to the pandemic. Unfazed, our fine arts faculty and students have worked countless hours, TOGETHER, to ensure we are still able to put on the professional shows our audience knows and loves – just in a different format. More importantly, we have remained dedicated to our students, giving them a creative and safe space to continue doing what they are most passionate about.
This event is free and appropriate for all ages. Grab your family and friends and escape 2020 for a while – Welcome to the 60s!
NAHS will be selling their annual winter coloring books online this year!
