Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful mums and grandmas! I hope you were all thoroughly spoilt and enjoyed spending the day with your families.
Thank you to the parents who assisted at the Mother's Day Stall on Friday morning. It was wonderful to see some new faces volunteering, as well as a couple of dads. There were lots of wonderful presents for the students to choose from and they were very excited to select the best present for their mum. The generosity of all families who donated presents is greatly appreciated.
Don't forget the important events this week:
- NAPLAN for Years 3 & 5 - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- OC applications for Year 5 in 2017 close on Friday
- PSSA Winter Sport begins
Working Bee - THIS SUNDAY!!
The school Working Bee will be held THIS SUNDAY 15th May from 12pm.
Please come along to help maintain the gardens. Even if you are only available for an hour, your help will be greatly appreciated. Please bring any gardening equipment you may have at home - gloves, shovels, wheel barrow, etc.
The aim of this Working Bee is to tidy up and weed some of the gardens within our school. By doing a thorough job on this day, it will make the areas more manageable for the future. We would love as many volunteers as possibleā¦all gardening skill levels welcome! Please come along on the day to join our community. We are also looking for donations of a variety of plants. If you are able to assist in this area, please see Ms Hoskins or Mrs Twitchings.
Walk Safely to School Day
Friday 20 May 2016 is National Walk Safely to School Day. At Banksmeadow Public School we encourage all students and their families to walk to school on this day. Once you arrive at school we will host a Healthy Breakfast under the COLA in the playground to promote a healthy diet, which should be followed in conjunction with regular physical activity. Good nutrition is essential for good health and a good breakfast is vitally important to start the day well. Breakfast gets the metabolism going and helps prevent a slump in concentration during the late morning hours. We hope to see you all there.
Dance News
Congratulations to Mrs Bragg, Ms Vicki and the Senior Dance Group as they were successful in being selected to perform at the Regional Dance Festival to be held at the Seymour Centre in Week 9. The selection process is very competitive and we are very proud of the group for their hard work and successful selection. Students involved will receive notes next week with dates and further information. The rehearsal for the performance will be on the same day as the performance.
Lesson fees are due this week. Dance costumes are currently being made for all students.
Important Safety Notices
Several students ride their bike or scooter to and from school each day. All students MUST wear a helmet when riding. Students should also remember that they are not to ride scooters or bikes within the school grounds. They must walk their bike or scooter to the gate before riding it home.
Many of our parents drop off and collect their children from the Brighton St entrance each day. Please be aware that the section of road directly outside the gate is a designated No Parking area. Please also refrain from stopping your car near the pedestrian crossing - when cars are parked close to the crossing it reduces the visibility for other drivers and is a serious risk to the students of our school and the members of our community who use the crossing.
New Sport Uniforms
It was suggested at a recent P&C meeting that some of the sets of sport uniforms, used for either soccer, AFL or Rugby League, are due to be replaced. At times there are members within our community who may wish to donate sets of jerseys on behalf of their business/company. The donation is often recognised by printing the company's logo on the jersey. If this is something you would be interested in, please see Ms Hoskins or Sarah Monahas (P&C President) for further information.
Medication and First Aid
At times your child may be required to be administered medication in the middle of the school day. If this is the case, medication should be in its original packaging, with the instruction label attached. The medication should be taken to the school office in the morning and should be accompanied by a note from the parent stating the time and dosage requirements.
First Aid is administered to all students as needed. Please note that schools are limited in the medications and ointments that we are able to use when cleaning or treating cuts, abrasions, insect bites, etc. If your child requires the application of creams, sprays or ointments on a specific day, including for the treatment of nasty insect bites, please provide these items and instructions for their use to the school office. If your child suffers an injury that requires further medical attention you will be contacted by the school.
Opportunity Class Placement for Year 5 in 2017 - LAST CHANCE
Applications for Opportunity Class Placements for Year 5 in 2017 close this week. Parents must apply online www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement. Please return your Intention to Apply to the school as soon as possible. Online applications close on Friday 13th May. Please note that no late applications will be accepted. If you have any questions or are unable to lodge your application online, please see Ms Hoskins before the closing date.
Junior Art Club - REPEAT
Due to Mrs Sharma's absence, Junior Art Club will not resume at the beginning of Term 2. More information regarding the resumption of the class will be sent home when Mrs Sharma returns to school.
Preschool Applications for 2017 - REPEAT
2017 Preschool applications can now be lodged at the school office. Children attending in 2017 must turn 4 by 31st July 2017. The days children can be enrolled are flexible and families can apply for up to 5 days a week. Application forms can be collected from the school office or downloaded from the school website. We encourage our families to tell any interested family, friends or neighbours to spread the word about our Preschool.
Interrelate Evening - REPEAT
Every two years, Banksmeadow Public School hosts an evening presented by Interrelate. This evening provides an opportunity for parents and children in Years 3-6 to attend and learn about issues relating to personal relationships. It can be a great ice breaker for topics which may otherwise be difficult for parents to discuss with their children.
The Interrelate evening will be held on Tuesday 31st May from 6:00pm. There will be two sessions:
* Session 1 - Where did I come from? (Years 3-6) @ 6:00 - 7:00pm
* Session 2 - Preparing for Puberty (Years 5-6) @ 7:15-8:15pm
Notes containing information regarding payments were sent home last week. Please return payment by Tuesday 24th May.
