Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.
Snapshot News:
This week Year 9 girls took part in a workshop run by FUZE throughout the day . FUZE deliver coding and gaming workshops and the object of the workshops is to give exposure to girls, the routes they can take into Engineering, Computer Science and Creative i-Media.
Year 9 also took a workshop ahead of the County School Challenge which aims to encourage students to think about the causes and consequences of people’s actions and identify solutions or prevention strategies. When this event last took place in 2019 CTS were the winners. The students involved created a knife crime themed card game called STALK, with each card including important facts about the issue.
Year 11:
Some amazing and very animated peer support by Mrs van der Lith’s Year 11 Maths group during exam practice! Thank you to Sanjai for his enthusiastic take on solving equations.
Evie - 7SI:
Year 12 First Aid:
This week in sixth form Year 12 took part in a 4-hour first aid course led by Mrs Wright. Students focused on all aspects of essential first aid, including CPR. Next week the focus will shift to treating burns, cuts and breaks. A massive thank you to Mrs Wright for delivering the session and well done to all students for their active participation.
Year 7 Creative Writing:
Year 7 student Rhys Dennett wrote this excellent poem in Creative Writing Club.
PE:
For the last 4 weeks students have been competing in a Netball tournament conducted in their PE lessons. Every student involved has massively improved their Netball skills and knowledge. Here are some of the winners for different year groups, a huge congratulations to all! Miss Williams and Ms Feeley would like to say a thank you to all students who took part, who showed great sportsmanship and teamwork.

Miss Patrick has made the following nominations this week:
Year 7:
This week year 7 have learnt how to notate rhythms using a rhythm grid. A special mention to 7SI, who amazed Miss Patrick with their complex rhythm creations. A special mention to Lucas, Kaiden and Alan for accurately recording their rhythm into GarageBand – excellent work!
Year 8:
This week Miss Patrick would like to celebrate Tyler O for his consistent hard work in creating an authentic EDM track, by recording in each separate track himself. He has already begun to structure his piece in the appropriate way and is making fabulous progress – keep up the amazing work!
Year 9:
Year 9 have experimented with the pentatonic scale this week. They have composed a short pentatonic melody in groups, as well as notating their creations using western notation. Miss Patrick has been really impressed with how all year 9’s have approached this challenging topic. A special mention goes to Weronika, Julia, Dominika and Mya (9CA) for their excellent groupwork this week. The students supported each other really well and this resulted in some brilliant melodic material – well done!
Maths:
Mr Lee has nominated Year 10 students Olivia, Kia and Clayton for exceptional work in our walking talking mock.
Miss Kaur has nominated Year 9 students Chloe, Liam, Lilly and Matthew their effort in the statistics project - well done! Also nominated are 7B1 for consistently working hard every lesson and being a really polite group to teach!
Mr Horne has nominated Year 9 students Amelia, Antoni, Amelie and Liam who have made excellent starts to their holiday statistics project.
Science:

Year 8 student Jude for excellent attitude in Science.
Year 9 student Rhys for great effort during Physics lessons.
Year 10 student Leena for brilliant work in Chemistry.
Year 11 student Rachel for her excellent practical work in session 6.
Art:
Miss Bowman has nominated Year 7students Pawel and McKenzie (7TE) who have worked exceptionally well. They have bee focused and produced creative work to the Pop Art theme. Both were able to move on to their acrylic painting with success and accuracy.
PE:
Mr Rogers has nominated Year 9 students Patrikas and Keane for their excellent communication and active listening in PE and Year 7 students Morgan and Max for their excellent teamwork.
English:
Mrs Rice has nominated Year 10 students Yunus and Will for their excellent poetry comparisons. Also nominated are Year 9 students Ruby and Chloe for excellent work on Salt to the Sea.
Mrs Rice would also like to thank Year 10 students Georgiana and Emma P for being wonderful ambassadors of English during the Year 9 Options evening this week.
Miss Lodge has nominated 10AP2. Miss Lodge has been so impressed with their enthusiasm and commitment this term, especially in Romeo and Juliet. They have worked hard, read a challenging text beautifully and had some interesting discussions. They should be very proud of their efforts. Also nominated are Year 7 students Leon, Luke, Leighton, Naimah, Boyd, Harley, Olivia J and Olivia S for some excellent contributions in English this term. They have had some fantastic ideas and Year 8 students Kyle, Amelia and Wiktoria for consistent hard work this term.
Miss Magnay has nominated 10A1 for their fantastic ideas whilst we have been planning essay questions for Romeo and Juliet. Also nominated are 8TE for their brilliant focus in our PSHE sessions.
The following Year 8 students have shown consistent focus and hard work every lesson:
Duru K, Olivia C, Tanya G, Amelia F, Kyle P, and Vadims N. Well done and keep it up!
Miss Vye has nominated her Year 8 classes, 8A1 and 8C3, for their excellent work on gothic writing. They worked in pairs to annotate stanzas from 'The Raven' and then shared them with the class. Miss Vye was very impressed with their ideas and their presentation skills!
Humanities:
Mr Strumpher has nominated Year 11 students Erin, Daisy, Wiktor, Oscar for producing high quality work in their lessons. Also nominated are the remainder of the Year 11C Geography class for working so hard and trying to get the work finished. Well done to everyone. Year 8 students Kade, Junior, Ivan, Jayden F, Klaudia, Bartosz and Rares are working hard in Geography lessons and are always ready with an answer in the classroom. Well done and keep up the good work!
Mrs Vaghadia has nominated Year 10 sociology students who have made a fantastic start to our new topic of families. They have all shown their sound understanding through a written piece of work well done. Special mention to Ella, Seth and Aimee for their help with options evening. You presented the school and Sociology in a lovely manner. Thank you so much for volunteering your time and helping out.
Mr Hallas would like to nominate Thomas, Toby and Lucy in 9TA for their excellent contributions during the GCSE Geography taster lesson on the nuclear power debate. Their critical analysis of the main arguments for and against nuclear power showcased an excellent understanding of the issue.
Mr Gealy has nominated 10B Geography for their consistent hard work and good attitude in Geography.
Mrs Brook has nominated Year 8 student Adam for his fantastic verbal contribution to the RE lesson.
Mr Harris has nominated Year 11 students Rowan, Gabriella, Thomas, Holly, Israel and Hallie who all performed excellently over their recent history assessments. Their progress and commitment to History is outstanding and Mr Harris is very impressed with his Year 11 students.
