As your child develops, it is always good to go over their daily nutrition. In the last 50 years, food sold in the store has tremendously changed in our nation. We have more access to processed food bars, candies, chips, and cookies at a low price our days. Fortunately, we are lucky to be near some fantastic organic fruit farms located in Placerville and Camino. According to research, eating an apple is very beneficial to the body and promotes brain health. Also, berries are a fantastic source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They are loaded with antioxidants, support inflammation, support cholesterol levels, and are good for the skin. Additionally, berries are natural sweeteners and can be combined with Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I constantly remind families of good nutrition, which is a source of essential vitamins and minerals.

At Schnell, we have a fantastic program to further support in the area of ELA and Mathematics. Ann Segura and Beth Peterson are two veteran teachers who taught school for years and took on a unique "Response to Intervention" program. At the beginning of the school year, they spent countless hours developing this program to be beyond excellent. They work closely with the teachers to determine which students need the extra academic support. Moreover, they create small groups and/or do 1 to 1 instruction. Our students love this program and can't wait to obtain the support and instruction from both Ann and Beth.

Dual Immersion at Schnell Elementary School

We are a unique school in the foothills of El Dorado County who also provide Spanish instruction to our students from kindergarten to 2nd grade. Next year, we are extending this program to third grade. By 2024, we will have a fully dual immersion program at Schnell. Such program provides an opportunity for students to be bilingual in both Spanish and English. There is a benefit with learning Spanish because it is incredibly helpful in both an intellectual and career-orient sense. Our students learn with the best Bilingual teachers, through imitation, songs, reading, and variety of other methods. According to educational research, learning a language at an early age is almost natural, in whole it is much easier for them to retain what they have been learning through Spanish Storybooks sets and other fun tools.

We have three amazing teachers at Schnell who runs the Dual Immersion Program at Schnell. Silvia Parra teaches kindergarten in Spanish, Shannon Zavala teachers 1st grade in Spanish, and Brena Alexander teaches 2nd grade in Spanish.

The Virtue of the month is " Perseverance". We, Schnell Staff, are committed to teach important virtues to our children as we believe on teaching to the Whole Child. It is important to teach perseverance because it helps young children to build a strong character when dealing with various difficult trials. Most importantly, we are teaching students to finish what they start, keep a steady pace in what they choose to do, and be loyal and committed.
