I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year! As we begin 2024, I look forward to continuing our commitment to excellence and serving all of our students and our school community.
Monday is a federal holiday as we commemorate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and this year it lands on his actual birthday. Your children are spending time this week learning about his life and commitment to equal rights and racial equality through read alouds, activities, and classroom discussions. While historical context is important, these concepts can often be vague and disconnected for many kids. My hope is that you find some time this weekend to share your story with your children, in whatever way you think is appropriate, so they can start to move beyond the history and begin to personalize what Dr. King was truly fighting for!
This month were are focused on Perseverance with our Character Strong Curriculum. Our first Perseverance quote comes from Selena Quintanilla-Perez who was an American singer, songwriter, model, actress, fashion designer, and spokesperson. "if you have a dream, don't let anyone take it away. Believe that the impossible is always possible." How have you believe in the impossible?

International Week 2024
Santa Rita's International Week (week of March 18th) is coming! It is one of our most beloved traditions at Santa Rita! It celebrates our diversity, makes students proud of their heritage, and brings our community together! We will have a family potluck, country presentations, flag parades, and dances and end with a school-wide evening festival on Friday, March 22nd.
To make this event a success, we need dance teachers and country presenters.
We are hoping to expand our small group cultural dance this year. If you are interested in teaching a dance to a small group of students during lunchtime in March, please let us know.
We are bringing back parent presentations this year. We need 16 presentations so we would love to have parent or parent/student teams to present. You can present with your child(ren), or support your child(ren) to present by themselves; or you can also present by yourself. Presentations will be given during school time on Thursday March 21st (K/TK) and Friday March 22nd (1st-6th).
If you are interested in helping or want to know more, contact Yang Liu at daisy_ly99@hotmail.com or Alice Lee at joy268@hotmail.com.

Disney’s Aladdin Jr. is based on the 1992 Academy Award®-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within.
The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. With expanded characters, new songs, and more thrills, this new adaptation of the beloved story will open up “a whole new world” for your young performers!
Registration is NOW OPEN for 3rd - 6th graders up to the first 40 students who register. Every child who registers will get a part! The registration/participation fee is $220 and is due at the time of registration. You can submit checks to the Santa Rita office (payable to “Santa Rita PTA”) or pay via Paypal (https://paypal.me/SANTARITAPTA).

THANK YOU to those who recently donated to LAEF and helped us meet our Holiday Challenge Match and to everyone who gave earlier this year. Your gifts have helped us raise $2.425M for our schools!
We still need to raise $475K to fully fund teachers this school year. If you have yet to give, help us finish the job. Donate today. Gifts of any amount are appreciated.
CENG FREE Virtual Hackathon for 3rd - 8th grade Registration Open Now
Computer Engineers of the Next Generation (CENG) will be hosting a FREE virtual hackathon for grades 3 to 8 on Saturday, March 2nd, and Sunday, March 3rd from 1–5 p.m. PST on both days. NO coding experience is needed to join! In small groups of 3–5, participants will have the opportunity to work together and learn to code in Scratch, JavaScript, or Python.
Workshops and games will be interspersed throughout the event to guide students of any experience level through the process. At the end of the Hackathon, students will present their work to a panel of judges in the field based on a rubric consisting of creativity, complexity/functionality, collaboration, and presentation. After the coding portion of the hackathon is over, participants will have the opportunity to listen to our guest speaker who is in the game design field.
Sign up for the hackathon and share it with your friends and family members who might be interested today by visiting cengclass.org. Registration closes on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
