"Stay in the Loop" 4th Edition
Letter from the Principal
This week, I literally had goosebumps when our students sang, “At the Name of Jesus,” so passionately during our recessional hymn. I was so moved, that when we returned, I thanked all of the students over the PA system for praising God so beautifully. As always, Father Dave did an incredible job using visual aids during his homily to help the children remember the message. He explained, although we may not see it, everyone is carrying a cross. He proceeded to show items he carried in his pocket to help our students connect with the message. Please ask your children what Father carried in his pockets and why he showed us all of those items…even his back scratcher. 😄 If you ever have the opportunity to join us for 8:30 Mass on Tuesday mornings, we’d love to have you join our school community.
We had our first Home & School Meeting this month and it was exciting to have a packed house! I have no doubt that we are going to have a plethora of successful events because of the energy and hard work of so many dedicated parents. Participating in the Home & School Association is a great way to get involved and meet other parents, so please consider joining us on the second Tuesday of each month.
We also had a very productive School Board meeting this month. This year, our school board members are going to be focusing on increasing engagement, so they will be looking for additional parents to assist with committees focusing on marketing, alumni engagement, and community events … more information can be found below. If you have a topic you would like discussed during a school board meeting, please reach out to one of our board members:
Craig Lomonico - President
Kat Ujzco - Vice President
Kelli Hermen - Secretary
Patty Berger - Teacher Representative
Carla Gerardi - Home & School Representative
Beth Gourley - Parish Council Representative
Brian Sauer - Athletics Representative
Dan Ujzco - Finance Council Representative
Tricia Gegorski
Diana Glanzman
Laura Feeney
Melinda Donathan
Jennifer Ferry
Our morning drop-off line has many slow lulls throughout the morning, so we are confident the line is running efficiently now. On Monday, we will begin handing out tardy slips to the students who are not in the building by the bell. If you have been cutting it close, please leave a few minutes earlier to ensure your student is here on time. It's helpful for the students to have time before class starts to get organized for their morning routine.
I hope you all have a joyful weekend with your kiddos!

Pizza with the Pastor
St. Pius X School has many blessings! One of our biggest blessings is having a pastor who is so involved with our school! Each month, a group of students will have the opportunity to each lunch with Father Dave during our Pizza with the Pastor. This month, some of our Jr. High students had their turn. This is a wonderful way for our students to get to know Father in a smaller setting.

Student Spotlight
Miss B met with 3rd graders, Eden Franklin and Jace Brown, to chat about the first few weeks of school and get their opinion on uniforms!
Miss B: How’s the beginning of school?
Eden: Great, we do a trivia question everyday and we guess a mystery person!
Jace: One new great thing is my teacher - she's nice, she's awesome.
Miss B: If you were a teacher at St. Pius, what would you want to teach?
Eden: I would teach second grade, I like the things we learned and I like that age.
Jace: If I was a teacher, I would teach the same thing as Miss B - second grade. It was one of the best years of my life.
Miss B: What are you most proud of so far?
Eden: My reading - I really like Magic Tree House and Babysitter’s Club series.
Jace: I feel like I’m a good big brother to my little sister. We help each other.
Miss B: How can you make a difference this year?
Eden: I can make a difference by not picking the paint on the walls and helping to keep the building clean.
Jace: Help each other, like if someone is hurt I will help. I try to hold the door open for others in the morning.
Miss B: If you could pick new uniforms for our school, what would they be?
Eden: I would make them look like they are, but maybe we could put a paw print on them!
Jace: I would make them have a picture of the school building instead. I think I would change the colors to purple and red, maybe green, but keep the gold.
Engagement Committee
School Board is looking to form a committee this year to increase engagement within the SPX committee. The time commitment may vary based on the project. The committee will undertake grant writing, marketing ideas, alumni relations, and community events. If you are interested, please contact Kelli Hermen - kllmmllr@yahoo.com
Youth Group News
All 7th and 8th graders are invited to check out the SPX Youth Group THIS SUNDAY, September 25, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Hohman Hall. Faith Opportunities for Students
Middle School Girls: You are invited to check out Blaze - an exciting bible study
being offered at St. Pius X! Blaze provides lots of fun ways to explore your faith
through games and icebreakers, prayer, and small group discussions – all in a safe
environment. You will also receive a small keepsake every session, as well as
enjoy yummy snacks. If you have questions about self-worth, God, boys, and/or friendships, this is the place for you!
Parents: The mission of BLAZE is to use Scripture to speak truth into the hearts of
young girls who are bombarded by lies about their true worth and beauty. Girls in
their tween/teen years are filled with questions. They have doubts, they desire
clarification, and they want to share their thoughts in a space that will allow them
to make their relationship with God personal and meaningful. Sign up your
daughter for BLAZE (or learn more) by contacting Judie Bryant at
spx_cia_news@yahoo.com. You can also learn more about the BLAZE ministry at walkingwithpurpose.com/blaze.
This year, two separate sessions of Blaze will be offered at different times –
Mondays when SPX school is in session from 2:30 to 3:30, and two Sundays per
month between the 8 and 10am Masses at SPX (8:50 – 9:50.) Girls may sign up for either one.
FORGE “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
FORGE is a program for 7th thru 9th grade guys based on Proverbs 27:17. Our Mission? To make sure that junior high guys know that no one is alone, and that in order to be a better follower of Christ there is a mutual benefit in making others better - through mentorship, followership,
and leading. Forge will provide lots of fun ways for guys to explore their faith through games and icebreakers, prayer, and small group discussions - And of course, we will provide lots of snacks as well! For more information, contact Judie Bryant at: spx_cia_news@yahoo.com.

Flu Clinic Offered at SPX*
St. Pius X School will offer a flu clinic on Wednesday, October 19, during school hours for students and staff. Please click on the photo to find the consent form.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
It is our pleasure to offer on-site flu vaccinations at your student’s school October 19th. Flu clinics will be offered at each school location during school hours. Health Heroes flu vaccination clinics are completely voluntary and are offered to ALL consented students, regardless of their insurance coverage.
Why get a flu vaccine?
The best way to minimize or avoid the spread of flu is to get an annual flu vaccination. Each year the vaccine protects against new strains, therefore, the vaccine should be administered annually.
Who is Health Heroes, Inc.?
At Health Heroes, we specialize in on-site vaccination clinics. Vaccines are provided as a NO-OUT-OF-POCKET expense to students. We bill both Medicaid and private insurance; however, we never bill students or parents for any out-of-pocket expenses or deductibles. Qualifying uninsured students can be given the vaccine, free of charge. Although student participation is voluntary, these vaccinations are recommended to help keep schools healthy and cut down on high absenteeism.
What type vaccines will be given?
IIV-4 injections will be available to all consented children who do not have any contra-indicators. All vaccines given are preservative-free, mercury-free, Thimerosal-free and administered by state-licensed nurses.
What do you need to do to participate?
If you wish for your child to participate, please COMPLETELY fill out the consent form, Including ALL insurance information (you must have the member ID numbers filled in) and sign the form. If there is no insurance, please mark appropriate box on the form. These forms need to be returned to your child’s school prior to the clinic date to secure a dose for your child.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Health Heroes at 1-205-609-0268/OH@healthherousa.com. For further information you can also visit our website at www.healthherousa.com. We hope to see your child in clinic!
