The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
February 9, 2024
Dear Families,
Perhaps you heard, but this week I had the opportunity to be the Guest Teacher in Mrs. Kanz's, Mr. Evan's, and Mr. Rozell's class. It was wonderful to flex those teaching muscles and spend quality time with the students in each of these classrooms. I just have to say that we have amazing students here at Llewellyn! This opportunity renewed my passion for teaching and respect for our educators while also filling my "bucket" ❤️ for the week.
I can hardly wait for the Small-Tall Ball tonight! It is one of the BEST events all year! I hope to see you and your family on the dance floor! One reminder, please monitor your child and make sure that they remain in the building and are not outside without supervision. Let's work together to keep this a fun and safe event!
Warmly,
Principal Pam

PTA Happenings
The Readathon was a huge success!!! We are still in awe of our Llewellyn community and the tremendous support we got during this brand new fundraiser. As a school, our students read over 181,000 minutes in just 12 days and we raised just over $35,000! We are so grateful for all the students, parents, and community members who committed to logging minutes and pledging donations to support all our extensions of learning both inside and outside our classrooms like field trips, our Mason bee program, art in the classrooms, teacher stipends, the school garden, and all of our community events like Harvest Festival, the Carnival, Reading Night and so much more. Thank you again for this incredible outcome!
Small Tall Ball is tonight at Llewellyn from 6-8 pm! The DJ will be playing all the hits and the photo booth will be ready for those selfies! If you haven’t bought tickets yet, no worries. We are selling them at the door. There will be a long line so get there early and be ready to dance the night away.
Our PTA meeting will be February 20 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. Our very own Llewellyn parent, Lahela Isaacson, will be our guest speaker. Lahela is a therapist that works with children ages 3-10 and specializes in autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing challenges, emotional regulation, developmental challenges, parent coaching and family/dyadic therapy. Last year she spoke about neurodivergent learners and how to best support them in the classroom and at home. We will also have our very own Mason beekeeper, Debbie Conrad, coming to discuss what our students will be learning about Mason bees this spring.
OBOB preparation has already begun! Our students have been reading from their book lists and have already formed teams with coaches. Llewellyn has 17 teams competing! Our OBOB competition will be February 22 and 23. For more information about the event, contact parent volunteer Sarah Sell at sarah.s.sell@gmail.com.

Immunization Exclusion Day is Coming!
PPS is required to ensure that all students are up to date on all school-required immunizations, or have a signed medical exemption letter signed by a licensed physician or a non-medical exemption, by Wednesday, February 21, 2024 (“Exclusion Day”). Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon.
On February 7th, the Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD) will mail a notification letter to all students who are due to receive one or more required vaccinations or who do not have a record of immunization. Students who do not have all their school-required vaccines or a qualifying exemption by Exclusion Day will not be allowed to attend school until their immunizations are up-to-date.
What to do if you get a letter
Call your school if you have already provided your child’s immunization record to the school and verify whether the school has a copy on file.
If your student needs updated vaccinations, get your child immunized right away. You can schedule an appointment with your child’s regular health care provider, or with:
One of the MCHD Student Health Centers. Benson High School students can call the Benson Wellness Center (OHSU).
The MCHD Immunization Clinic at 619 NW 6th Avenue, Room 150, Portland, OR. This Clinic occurs every Tuesday and Thursday 9am - 4pm, and Friday 10am - 5pm. Call 503-988-4724 for an appointment.
Bring to your child’s appointment the Certificate of Immunization Status Form that was included with the letter you received from MCHD. This Form will let the provider know what vaccinations your student still needs. If you misplace the CIS Form you received in the mail, you can request another copy from your child’s school).
Once your student has received their required vaccines, sign the completed immunization form and turn it in to your child’s school.
Thank you for keeping your student and their classmates safe, in school, and ready to learn!
PPS decarbonization roadmap: community input/listening sessions
PPS is seeking input from students, teachers, school staff, and community members about how to build a long-range plan to lower carbon emissions in our district. The question we want help answering is: “How can PPS most effectively implement GHG emissions reduction measures to give us the best chance of meeting our emissions goals, given financial, industry, and facility constraints, while considering historic inequities in the distribution of resources across PPS?” See dates and details for more information and how to provide input.
