Spring Newsletter 2022
Message from Your Lyman Administrators
Happy Spring Everyone! Spring activities are in full swing and summer is in sight! The excitement of sporting events, AP Testing, Prom, awards night, end of year events and finally graduation is filling the Lyman halls. Please enjoy our Spring newsletter and all the the updates for the end of year events. Please see below regarding the Lyman Parent Survey.
Lyman Parent Survey
We are asking you to participate in a School Parent survey as part of our continuing commitment to include every voice in the important work of educating our children. These surveys stem from legislation passed in Connecticut related to school reform and the professional evaluation system.
As you know, everything we do is directed toward highly effective instruction, a safe and welcoming school environment and communication that builds parent and community trust. Our goal is to see how parents perceive our schools, and to ensure that the feedback gained from these surveys informs our future goal setting.
The Parent Survey is one tool for evaluating the conditions for learning in our schools and your opinion is very important to us. There are three identical surveys for each of the schools in the Lebanon School District. If you have children in multiple schools, please ensure you complete one survey for each school. Each survey is accessed online with a separate internet address for each of the three District schools. Please complete the survey for Lyman Memorial parents and guardians by clicking the link below:

See the photos below for some of the participation from the week.
Teacher Appreciation Week
"Mr Collins! Hes hilarious and extremely supportive and helps us learn information in an engaging and fun way! Hes the best teacher ive ever had and I wish to be like him some day."
" Mr.Covino, he is so supportive to all students and lets them be themselves. When I’m having a bad day, being in his class makes me feel better. When I feel bad about my art work, he is always lifting it up, and others artwork too. You will always feel welcome whether you’re a beginner or advanced student. He is patient and willing to help all students no matter who they are. Mr.Covino isn’t just an amazing teacher, he has such a kind heart."
"Mr. Morello! He always says hello and welcomes me everyday to class, makes jokes and teaches topics I adore!"
"Mrs. Gorborino. She is an amazing teacher and helps us out with homework and tries her best to teach her classes in the best manner possible. Thank you Mrs. Gorborino."
" Ms. Ricard is a really fun teacher who teaches one of the favorite subjects - music. She connects will all of her students personally, and makes sure that we all are improving."
" Mr. DeCarli is a great teacher because he makes my chemistry class interesting. Even though I struggle to understand chemistry, he is always able to explain everything in a way that makes it easier for me to understand. He also makes it a class that I look forward to, because he is always willing to be understanding and patient with people, especially my lab group, who (more than) sometimes gets easily distracted. Even when we have absolutely no clue what we are supposed to be doing, he remains patient and explains it in a way that makes it much easier for us to understand."
Thank you to everyone who shared about their teachers. Look for the Teacher of the Year Nomination forms in your email soon!
- Counselors went into Sophomore English classes the week of 4/25 to administer AchieveWorks Personality. This assessment helps students explore their personality traits and suggests careers/college majors that would be a good fit for them based on the results of their personality type. Parents can view the results by asking their child to log into their account at www.humanesources.com.
- Counselors are currently meeting individually with Freshman to talk about possible career interests, credits and course selections for next year.
-Course requests for next year have been sent home. Please contact your counselor with any questions or if you would like to make any changes.
- Juniors should be researching colleges and planning visits. All college bound Juniors should come into their Senior year with a list of about 6 colleges that they definitely want to apply to, keeping in mind a range of admission difficulty (reach, target and safety).
- Seniors should complete the 2022 LMHS Scholarship Application and Senior Survey by May 1st. This was emailed to all Seniors. It is a great opportunity to obtain money for college. Even if students are not interested in applying for scholarships, it is important that they at least fill out the Senior Survey section so their final transcript can be sent to the college they plan to attend in the Fall.
- Attention Seniors - Electric Boat in Groton will be hosting "Walk In Wednesdays" each Wednesday this spring from 12pm to 5pm. Attendees can get info on various trade jobs offered at EB in addition to help with the application process. EB is currently hiring electricians, carpenters, painters and in many additional fields. No experience or appointment is necessary. Please see your counselor for more info.
