WRMS Message for Students

Congratulations to Mrs. Penn and the District nurses for achieving recognition from the NJ Department of Health as one of their 23 honorees for the Influenza Honor Roll. They achieved this though raising awareness, implementing a vaccination program, and promoting safe environments in the school setting. Well done!

Mrs. Penn sent out communication to parents of students who have medication in the nurse's office. We will be conducting a drive through pick up today, May 22nd, from 12-3 PM for those parents. To help everyone maintain social distancing and safety, please read her letter and follow the pick-up protocols. Thank you!

The Board of Education approved applying the unused snow days to the end of the year in lieu of around Memorial Day weekend. Therefore, June 12 will be the last day of school for students. More information is coming regarding dropping off and picking up remaining items, but please save the date of June 12th for this to occur (Students will be keeping their Chromebooks over ths summer).

Also, the Board approved the following changes to the school days for 2020-2021:

K-5: 8:50 - 3:20 (regular day)/ 10:20 - 3:20 (90 minute delay)/ 8:50 - 12:50 (early dismissal)

6-8: 8:15 - 3:04 / 9:45 - 3:04 / 8:15 - 12:36

9-12: 7:55 - 2:44 / 9:25 - 2:44 / 7:55 - 12:11

Please see the attached letter regarding immunizations required for entry into 6th grade. Feel free to contact Mrs. Debbie Penn, the Middle School Nurse, with any questions.

With support from the NJ Department of Agriculture, the school district is allowed to provide breakfast and lunch free of charge to all students enrolled in the school.

We currently offer meals for pick up between the hours of 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at two school locations:

• Berkeley Elementary School - 47 Berkeley Ave Westwood, NJ
• Brookside Elementary School - 20 Lake Drive Westwood, NJ

If you are interested in participating in the program, please fill out this form so that the district can properly plan and prepare meals. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to keith.rosado@wwrsd.org.

If you are experiencing medial issues, emotional concerns, or loss in your family, and are comfortable sharing that with us, please let us know. As we continue to navigate remote learning, we reflect on things we can do better and ways in which we can work together for students to meet with greater success.

Teachers are increasing their availability through Google Meet, especially with the addition of a virtual ASL. They are sending invitations directly to their students, please support them by encouraging your student(s) to attend.

Please also let us know how your student(s) are doing. While we can see the work submissions, we can't see the emotions behind the work. We continue to be here to support them, whether it's through teachers, guidance, or administration. Please keep the feedback coming so we can continue to shape our practices to best serve our students.

Even though the building is closed, we are still here to support children who may be experiencing HIB, especially in this new digital platform. Should your student be expressing concerns, please reach out to our counselors for more information and support.

Box Tops!

Download the new Box Tops app and keep earning for our school! While you will be able to clip and send them in the traditional way while products remain on store shelves, earning 10 cents for the school with each Box Top you send in (and these really add up!), we will be shifting toward individual online submission and an all-school goal. Please download the app and, you’ll simply need to scan your receipt and all such items will be recorded—with just one scan. Scanning these receipts also gets us entered in contests that win bonus Box Tops for our school!

Anew Counseling Services in Oradell will be hosting a free Zoom presentation to all parents in our surrounding communities on Thursday May 28th at 6:30pm to provide information about symptoms of social and generalized anxiety disorders, helpful tips to support a child demonstrating these symptoms, and treatment options. In addition, they will also offer strategies to help your children cope with anxiety related to adjustment disorders due to COVID-19.

Additionally, Comfort Zone, a camp for kids and young adults who have suffered the death of a parent, sibling or legal guardian, is offering a FREE virtual COVID-19 camp for youth ages 13-25 on May 30th.There will also be a parent/guardian program taking place simultaneously for those whose child(ren) are participating in the program.
