Exciting news! Conlee Community Elementary School is thrilled to share a fantastic opportunity to receive a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables every two weeks. Welcome the goodness of nature and nourish yourselves with these yummy and wholesome foods. Your journey to a healthier lifestyle starts by signing up for the Brighter Bites Program. Our first healthy produce event is scheduled for February 14th at 3pm. You can register with the link below. Pick up will be on the Montana side through the cafeteria drive through parking lot.

Media Magnet Program
Sierra Middle School Film and Broadcast Magnet proudly offers the following:
· A course specializing in the development of film and broadcast journalism both tv and web-based formats.
· Participation in the production of a daily broadcast.
· Plan, film, write, create, edit, and produce films, news, weather, investigative reports, documentaries, music videos, vlogs, interviews, PSAs, commercials, and much more!
· Experience in collaborating with peers to create films and broadcasts.
· Develop an appreciation for the collaborative nature of movie-making and broadcasting.
· The ability to analyze films from a technical, literary, and aesthetic perspective.
· Visit working studios, sound stages, museums, and other major film experiences in Los Angeles, California.
· Participate in interesting field trips to newspaper offices, radio, and television stations both locally and within the state.
· Visit various higher education film, broadcast, and media programs.
· Experience communication-related careers through visits via Zoom or in-person guest speakers.
· Experience team-building, make new friends, and have the opportunity to try new things on a 3-day camping trip to Lone Tree.
· The opportunity to think, discuss, and write critically about film and broadcasting.
· Learn about the wide variety of careers within the film and broadcast industry.
· Learn and understand films’ unique history, major film movements, and broadcasting history.
· Learn how to use a variety of editing software such as iMovie, Rush, Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and more!
· Participate in a program that includes the opportunity to participate in the Student Television Network National Competition, NM Film Prize Jr., and LCPS Tell the Story Showcase.
Science Magnet Program
Sierra Middle School Science Magnet proudly offers the following:
· 100+minutes daily course devoted to the science curriculum allowing for in-depth, inquiry-based studies.
· Exciting field trips (including overnight and wilderness experiences) which will enrich the daily science curriculum.
· Engineering & physics concepts taught through actual student experiences such as repelling from towers, robotics, designing roller coasters, chemical principles taught through labs, and constructing rockets and catapults.
· Students will participate in the care, maintenance, and study of small classroom vertebrates and plants.
· Hands-on agricultural and horticultural experiences at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park to study ecology.
· Students will study the life of a cell and micro-organisms through the world of a microscope.
· The study of Earth's processes including plate motion, the rock cycle, weather, and climate.
· Opportunity to interact with and gain knowledge from professional scientists in a variety of fields.
Sierra Middle School
6th grade
2024–2025 School Year
Electives – Students will have 3 elective courses.
If a student has been accepted into a magnet program, one of their electives will be their magnet course.
AES Gifted Seminar – This elective is open to all gifted and highly capable students in grades 6-8. Activities are project-based and utilize students' critical thinking and creativity skills. Projects are based on multiple content areas and involve critical thinking and creativity.
Agricultural Science (FFA) – The science involved with agriculture, from plants to raising animals.
Band – Students learn to play Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, or Percussion instruments. No experience is necessary, instruments are available through the school.
Choir – Students learn vocal skills such as pitch matching and singing in harmony with others. Students will learn how to read music, sight sing, and sing and sign solfege. Usually, we have about 3 concerts a school year and showcase all that we have learned in front of friends and family. When you join Choir, you will make new friends and make connections with other students.
Health (HOSA) –This elective is designed to provide students with an understanding of health sciences while aligning with the principles of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). In this class students will explore various aspects of health, wellness, and healthcare professions, gaining valuable insights into the dynamic field of health sciences.
Military Science – This class focuses on character and leadership development. Students are introduced to American symbols, customs, traditions, and the differences and similarities of each service and their unique roles in the defense of the nation.
Orchestra – Students will learn how to play either the violin, viola, cello, or string bass. Orchestra is a great place to be yourself with friends while learning how to make music! No experience is necessary.
Physical Education (PE) – Students are required to take 2 semesters of PE in Middle School. We encourage 6th graders to take a year of PE. Students are required to change into PE clothing daily.
Spanish – There are 3 levels of Spanish. This class is recommended for all students who would like to learn a second language. You may register for any level of Spanish based on your level of knowledge of the language.
Project Unified Gardening – Students with and without disabilities work together in this course. We learn basic principles from plant anatomy to caring for plants, to designing their own garden space! Students can work with others in the greenhouse and the school garden. Students who take this course are also eligible to join the Sierra Middle FFA Chapter.
All 6th-grade students are required to take the CTE Wheel as one of their electives.

Students take each course for 1 nine-week period and then rotate to the next course.
Art – Sierra Art students are hands-on learners. They will work with many mediums, including painting, drawing, and 3D works of art.
Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) – Students will learn about personal health, relationships, sewing, nutrition & cooking, and other life skills.
Computer Science – Students learn coding and can create their own programs.
Health Occupations – Students are introduced to various health-related occupations and will learn about the importance of health and wellness and the skills necessary for success in the field.
