Parent notification of absences by teachers
If you have received an email regarding your student having more than 10% absences within the 1st quarter, please note these absences include EXCUSED and UNEXCUSED absences.
ATTENDANCE: #PGCPSAttendance
Matters School attendance remains a priority for Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Our goal is for every student to attend instruction (virtual or in-person) every day and on time. Regular school attendance ensures your child’s access to a high-quality education and has a major impact on their success from kindergarten through high school.
We understand that some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances.
However, when students miss too much school — for any reason— they fall behind academically and will be considered chronically absent.
Chronic absenteeism is defined as any absence that exceeds more than 10 percent of the 180-day school year.
To help your child achieve the most from their learning experience, make school attendance a priority!
If you have any concerns on whether an absence is excused or unexcused, please review your student's attendance in SchoolMAX.

We're Celebrating Disability Awareness Month in January!
We are excited to celebrate Disability Awareness Month in January. Although this celebration typically happens in October, this January celebration marks a very special time for one of our students, who has asked to share her experience as a disabled person, advocate for herself and peers, and help make the high school a more inclusive place. We look forward to increasing our understanding of visible and invisible disabilities and spreading kindness and support as part of our daily practice.

Fingerprint Lab in Forensics!
Hello CMIT!!
What's new in Forensics class? Recently, Mr. Ozdem and Ms. Gonzalez's Forensics students chemically developed fingerprints!
Using Ninhydrin and superglue, they were able to chemically reveal invisible fingerprints on different surfaces.
Check it out!

Biology Class
Hello CMIT!
Recently in Ms. Gonzalez's Biology class, students were able to study an old wasp nest! Students were excited to study and hold the nest as they looked for dried up wax, an example of the major macromolecule, lipids! They were able to see the organization of the combs within the nest, one of the many examples of cell compartmentalization within the natural world. In this unit, students will learn about cells, ranging from their discovery to functions within complex organisms. The discovery of the cell and Robert Hooke's contributions to the cell theory are similar to studying a wasp nest. When he first viewed cells under a microscope, he noticed their structure and compartmentalization, which is why he called them cells in the first place!
