Accessing TCI Programs
Teachers and students will access TCI via CCS Classlink Launchpad. Look for the purple icon "TCI Subscription."
TCI programs are assigned based on teacher master schedules in Infinite Campus. Teachers are not able to add additional programs to their accounts. Class rosters are synced from Infinite Campus at the beginning of the school year, and each evening during the school year. Teachers are not able to make changes to class rosters.
On-Demand PD
TCI's new In-App On-Demand PD provides 3 leveled series for self-paced PD. With these self-paced courses, you can start, pause, and repeat content anytime directly on TCI’s platform. You can earn certificates with documented hours at the end of each course. To access the PD, open any TCI program and locate the "Professional Development" link at the top of the left side purple menu.

TCI Digital Platform Introduction
Theory- and Research-Based Active Instruction
Lessons and activities are based on five well-established theories.
Understanding by Design (Wiggins & McTighe) - Teaching for deep understanding requires planning backward—first determining the big ideas students are to learn and then working backward to determine acceptable evidence and identify methods to reach those goals.
Multiple Intelligences (Gardner) - Every student is intelligent—just not in the same way. The best activities tap more than one kind of intelligence. Gardner has described these seven intelligences: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, body kinesthetic, musical-rhythmic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal.
Cooperative Interaction (Cohen) - When students are trained in cooperative behaviors, placed in mixed-ability groups, and assigned roles to complete during a multiple-ability task, they tend to interact more equally. This increased student interaction leads to more learning and greater content retention.
Spiral Curriculum (Bruner) - In the spiral curriculum, students learn progressively more difficult concepts through a process of step-by-step discovery. With this approach, all students can learn once a teacher has shown them how to think and discover knowledge for themselves.
TCI Lesson Elements and Cycle
TCI lessons are designed to be dynamic and interactive to fully engage students. Additionally, you will find these elements in each TCI lesson.
Preview
- A short, engaging activity at the start of each lesson helps you preview key concepts and tap students’ prior knowledge and personal experience.
- Six multiple intelligence activities/engagement strategies are intertwined with carefully structured reading materials that enable students at all levels to understand what they read.
- Section notes and graphic organizers help students record key ideas and make meaning out of what they read. By using graphic organizers that display the underlying logic of and interconnections among concepts, students improve their comprehension and retention of content.
Processing
- An end-of-lesson activity, involving multiple intelligences and higher-order thinking skills, challenges students to apply what they have learned in a variety of creative ways.
Activities / Engagement Strategies
These six Multiple Intelligence teaching strategies are incorporated into TCI’s classroom activities.
Visual Discovery 👁️
General Guidelines
- Use powerful images to teach social studies concepts.
- Arrange your classroom so projected images will be large and clear.

- Challenge students to read about the image and apply what they learn.
- Have students interact with the images to demonstrate what they have learned.

Experiential Exercise 🕺
These short, memorable activities make abstract ideas or remote events accessible and meaningful by tapping into intrapersonal and body kinesthetic intelligences. They help students learn abstract ideas and make remote events accessible and meaningful.
General Guidelines
- Use short, memorable experiences to help students grasp social studies concepts.
- Prepare your students for a safe, successful experience.
- Make the experiences as authentic as possible.
- Allow students to express their feelings immediately after the experience.
- Ask carefully sequenced questions to help students make connections between their experience and key concepts or events.

Writing for Understanding 🖋️
Writing for Understanding activities improve both students’ understanding of key social studies concepts and their writing ability by engaging students in interactive experiences. To write forcefully and in detail about social studies topics, students need interactive experiences about which to write. Purposeful writing assignments motivate students to write with style and meaning.
General Guidelines
- Use writing to help your students learn key social studies concepts.
- Give students rich experiences to write about.
- Have students record their ideas, thoughts, and feelings in prewriting activities.
- Provide students with authentic writing assignments.
- Guide students through the writing process.

Response Group 💬
Response Group activities are a way to sidestep the problems inherent in class discussion. Students first work in small groups with thought-provoking resources—perhaps viewing compelling images, reading primary sources, or listening to music—and then discuss related critical thinking questions among themselves.
General Guidelines
- Challenge students to discuss controversial and complex issues in small groups.
- Create heterogeneous groups and a suitable classroom arrangement.
- Prepare students to answer provocative critical thinking questions.
- Allow groups time to prepare their responses.
- Facilitate a lively class discussion.

🌟
Problem Solving Groupwork 👥
Problem Solving Groupwork activities teach students the skills necessary to work together successfully in small groups, both in the classroom and later in life. During Problem Solving Groupwork tasks, students sit in heterogeneously mixed groups to work on challenging projects, such as preparing a historical dramatization.
General Guidelines
- Challenge students with engaging, multiple-ability projects.
- Prepare all students for successful groupwork.
- Give group members clearly defined roles and requirements.
- Give groups autonomy and time to prepare high-quality products.
- Have groups present their work.
