Superintendent Update
Hello Nashoba,
This week several families have reached out to me to let me know it’s been a tough week. When issues of international conflict impact the daily lives of our students, the school system has a role to play in providing social and emotional support to those students who need it. Please do not hesitate to contact your school leaders and request the assistance needed. We stand ready to support in any way that we can, ensuring that your child feels heard, valued, and supported.
Our mission, to inspire and challenge all learners to realize their unique potential, is fortified by our commitment to being active pillars of support and understanding for our students, particularly when challenges arise. We are dedicated to fulfilling our mission with deeply-rooted empathy, standing alongside our students always, and most especially during the tough times.
Remember: Our community’s strength is in our collective support and unity. Together, we will navigate through these challenges and continue to foster a nurturing environment where our students can grow and thrive.
Peace,
Kirk Downing

Continuing Our Journey: Enhancing Curriculum Development for our Portrait of a Nashoba Graduate
This week, the Department of Teaching and Learning and our teacher curriculum facilitators were busy preparing for the continuation of Nashoba's curriculum development and mapping initiatives, which will be a focus of our early release professional development days this year. The work kicks off next Friday, October 20th, when educators from across the district will continue the work begun last year and team up in content and grade-level groups to dive deeper into our curriculum. Our curriculum efforts go beyond traditional learning, highlighting the practical application and transfer of skills and knowledge across multiple contexts. During early release sessions, teachers will collaborate and share ideas to improve our existing curriculum units, working to ensure that our students' learning experiences are not only engaging and relevant but also robustly connected to real-world applications where and when possible. We are committed to continuously improving our curriculum with the goal of bringing our Portrait of a Nashoba Graduate into practice at all grade levels and across all content areas. We will continue to keep our families updated on our progress. Please be on the lookout for highlights of our efforts throughout the year.
STILL Looking for Internship Partners for our Future Innovation Pathway Programming!
Two weeks ago, we shared that Nashoba Regional High School was selected as one of only 31 high schools to be awarded a grant from the state of Massachusetts to establish an Innovation Pathways Program. We are beyond thrilled! Guided by survey results gathered from our community, our Nashoba Innovation Pathways planning team has decided to pursue implementation of two career pathways for the 2024-2025 school year: an Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Pathway and a Business and Finance Pathway.
An essential element of the Pathways programming is relevant, real-world experience. To that end, we are actively seeking internship opportunities within our local community to support the experiences of this future programming. We believe that internships will not only benefit our students, they will also help create support for the connections we have within our local community. We are seeking potential internship partners and asking our families for help. If you or someone you know can offer a possible internship opportunity in their field for either our Business and Finance Pathway or our Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Pathway, we ask that you complete this form.
Your support in considering to support internship opportunities for our high school students is invaluable. Please note that completing this form does NOT commit you or your organization to providing an internship; it simply helps us gather information for future planning.
