Introducing THE BOOMER. We are excited about bringing Roo news to you! Not only does the name reflect the intention of the NGC Newsletter - to sound off loud and proud about all the great things happening at NGC; THE BOOMER is significant in a Kangaroo's life. A group of kangaroos is called a mob (you know, Mighty Mob!), and the dominant male kangaroo in the mob is called the BOOMER! We hope you like this name, just as much as we like showcasing our Roo Pride!!! The Boomer is a great resource to see all the highlights and amazing things that happen at Weatherford Ninth Grade Campus.

The Weatherford Ninth grade center will be hosting a drive to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey. We will be collecting cleaning supplies, bug spray, and money. You may drop the supplies off at the front office. Thank you for your support.

First progress report will go out on Tuesday of next week (September 19th).

Mega Lunch is 5 days a week. There is a 30 minute A block and a 30 minute B block.

Each offers different tutorials, clubs, and other experiences.

Freshmen A team lost to the Burleson Elks, 20-0

Freshmen B team pulled ahead with a win against the Elks, 8-6. Kevin Martinez scored the winning 2 point conversion.

Highlights from the Tuesday, September 12th game against Keller Central:

Freshman A won in 2.

On Tuesday, September 12th, your Weatherford Kangaroo tennis team took on the Timber Creek Falcons. Braden “I Got Game, Set, and Match” Carter dominated his match on his way to a win. Jana “You Won’t Like Me When I’m Angry” Zacharias also came away with a win in a nail-biting tiebreaker. The varsity team takes on Abilene High next Saturday the 23rd at home. Your JV Roos take on Timber Creek on Thursday the 14th at home. Come on out to support these future Wimbledon Champions.

At friday night's game (9/8) against Brewer, The Fightin' Roo Marching Band and Color Guard had another successful run of their 2017 production of "Fly to Paradise". In the coming weeks uniforms, props, and completed drill will be presented before starting their competition season in October.

18 WHS Choir Students are competing this Saturday in the first round of All State Choir Auditions at Fossil Ridge HS in Keller HS.

Health Science and Technologies is for the students who wish to be in the medical field someday. They cover body systems, some emergency techniques, and as always, CPR! They are proud to call themselves the ultimate science nerds and love everything anatomy! These students look at a wound and say, "oooooo," while other people look at a wound and say, "ewwwweee." They are the forever learners, the curious, proud, brave and bold students who would jump at a chance to give a shot (but won't because they are not authorized) and who worry about their friend, who is not well. They research diseases, and try to find better ways to make someone's bad day better.

This week WISD is recognizing childhood cancer awareness. This Thursday, we will Be Bold, Go Gold in support.

Did you know??

-Childhood cancer occurs regularly, randomly and spares no ethnic group, socioeconomic class or geographic region. In the United States, the incidence of cancer among adolescents and young adults is increasing at a greater rate than any other age group, except those over 65 years.

- Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the U.S.

-About 60% of all funding for drug development in adult cancers comes from pharmaceutical companies. For kids? Almost none, because childhood cancer drugs are not profitable.

-Only 4% of U.S. federal funding is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research.

- Before they turn 20, about 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will have cancer. Worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes.

We will have a pep rally on Thursday, September 21st during 7th period.

Red, White, and ROO - show your school spirit by dressing up in red, white, and blue!!

Also, Be Bold, Go Gold and show your support and help bring awareness to childhood cancer.

Kylei Hopkins Student at Weatherford High School, member of HST, and president of S.C.R.U.B.S; took her dreams all the way to the Dominican Republic this summer. A program called Gap Medics helped her to realize her life goal in helping care for people. Kylei’s maintained a rigorous schedule during her internship. She was up early to make it into the hospital, observed medical care, had professional conversations with the doctors,and even assisted at times with patient assessment and surgery. Thursday evenings she got to do her favorite thing, be around kids! For a couple hours that evening the students went and spent time with children, playing tag or even just sitting with them. The program showed her, her love for Trauma surgery, and her love to serve in any way possible. The journey will be long, but one day she hopes to be in the trauma medicine field. Early mornings and sleepless nights have already began, but this is with she was born to do. To be a hero whether it is a JPS, or across the globe. We are so proud of Kylei’s accomplishments, and so proud that she got her start at Weatherford High School!

Kylei is an inspiration to freshmen as they begin their high school journey!
