Superintendent's Update - 9.2.2022
Dear CPS Community,
We had a terrific opening to the 2022/23 school year. It was wonderful to see our entire school community come together and greet students for the beginning of a new school year. During my visits to the schools, I saw smiling faces and many opening activities such as scavenger hunts and games to help students get to know one another, their new classrooms, and new teachers. Our kindergarten and freshman orientations were very successful to help transition and welcome new students to the district. We are off to a great start to the new year and I look forward to many more fantastic weeks ahead!
This year we were very fortunate to resume our annual faculty and staff convocation on Monday to kick off the new year at our Performing Art Center (PAC) with a keynote message from Dr. Adolph Brown. This traditional annual staff gathering was interrupted the last two years due to COVID and it was terrific to be able to come together again in 2022. Dr. Brown’s messages on unconscious bias, stereotyping, equity, and inclusion resonated with our entire CPS community and was an incredible way to start off the school year with a positive mindset for all. As a district, we are looking forward to continuing our work in the areas of equity and inclusiveness for all CPS students this school year and plan to welcome Dr. Brown back in November for our full professional development day.
It was a short week, and we are headed into the long weekend in observance of Labor Day. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, September 5, 2022, and schools will reopen on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Please enjoy some opening week highlights featured below in this week’s newsletter and have a wonderful long weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
