Dress Code FAQ
Dear Bobcat Families, Staff, and Students,
We have had several people ask questions about the updated dress code guidelines. Here are some of our FAQs:
Q: When do the new dress code guidelines go into effect?
A: The new guidelines became effective on May 2 when the Governance Board adopted the update to the policy found in the Student and Family Handbook. Students can immediately begin wearing clothing that fits the new guidelines.
Q: Can students wear whatever they want now?
A: NO. Please refer to the guidelines that were shared on May 3. Clothing needs to be school appropriate and support a safe, productive, learning community. Although ripped pants are now allowed, they should not be excessively ripped. Rips need to be at least 1 inch below the fingertips. We had multiple students today already in violation of this guideline. The Director or Principal ultimately make the final decision on appropriateness and it is not up for debate. Please support us when students are not following the guidelines.
Q: Can students wear sweatpants?
A: No. MCS warm-ups are allowed because they show school and team pride. Sweatpants are not appropriate clothing for a work and learning environment outside of gym class.
Q: Can students wear leggings?
A: Yes, however they need to be school appropriate. Spandex and/or transparent leggings are not allowed. Again, the Director or Principal ultimately make the final decision on appropriateness and it is not up for debate.
Q: Can students wear any shirt?
A: Bobcat Pride or polo shirts are preferred, but not required. Students are NOT permitted to wear tank tops, crop tops, sleeveless shirts, low cut shirts, or inappropriate graphics and logos.
Q: Do the new guidelines apply to staff?
A: No. The MCS staff are required to wear business casual attire. As the models for students, they should come to work professionally and appropriately dressed.
When considering clothing choices, ask 3 questions:
Do my choices improve or contribute positively to the learning environment?
Am I showing pride as part of our community?
Am I helping to keep myself and others safe?
Answering YES to all 3 questions will help us maintain a strong, safe, and respectful learning environment.
