Principal's Note...
Dear MMES Families,
What an incredible week at MMES! We had field day, enrichment programs (thank you MMPTO), field trips, and our Grade 5 Crossing the Bridge ceremony last night! While all of these events are fun, novel, and festive, it is important to note that some students feel a sense of loss and anxiety as the school year comes to a close.
The routines that they are used to will change. They might not see their friends and teachers they are used to seeing every day for a little while. I have heard from a number of our fifth graders that they "really do not want to leave MMES!" I totally get how they are all feeling! There is an excitement this time of year mixed with the unknown. Be sure to check on your children to help them process the changes that are coming. I think they will feel a little better to process things with a trusted adult. In no time at all, we will be welcoming our students back to MMES!
I wanted to thank all of our staff members for an amazing year! This is a staff of highly qualified and talented staff who also CARE a lot about our students! A huge part of what we are at MMES is thanks to them! I also wanted to thank our amazing parents for all of the support this year. One of my goals this year was to "re-engage" our post-Covid parent population in the school. It was great to see so many regular faces around the building helping us out! Look out, because I want to see even more of you volunteering at MMES next year! Thank you for all that you do for us!
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer vacation! Remember if we want our world to be a beautiful place, IT STARTS WITH ME!
Best,
Have a great weekend!
Best,
John
K Field Trip - So Fun!
Interested in Rock Band or Chorus?
Chorus and Rock Band practice for the last 2 weeks of school will be info sessions for potential new members. If your child is currently in grades 2-4 and might want to try Chorus or Rock Band next year, we invite them to come to rehearsal and try it out - no commitment. Potential Rock Band members will be able to try the school's instruments.
Chorus is open to all rising 3rd-5th graders. No experience necessary.
Any 3rd-5th grader may join Rock Band as a singer or handheld percussionist. Keyboard, guitar, and ukulele players should already have some background on the instrument. Sorry, but the drum set part is already taken next year at both schools.
If your child wants to try Chorus or Rock Band, please drop them off at school by 7:25 am on the appropriate day. MMES students should come to the gym doors.
MMES Chorus: Tues. 6/6 and Tues. 6/13
MMES Rock Band: Wed. 6/7 and Wed. 6/14
Students who are already in Chorus and Rock Band should still come to practice to show new members how we do things.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Thanks,
Fiona Dooley

Enrichment at Memorial this Week
Dear Memorial Parents and Caregivers,
It was another busy week with Enrichment programming! Corey The Dribbler, visited
with our student body this Tuesday afternoon after a fun field day. Corey is a retired Harlem Globetrotter who showed our students not only his athletic talent, but discussed the importance of treating people with kindness and respect. He explained how his hard work and self respect helped him to achieve his goals. The gymnatorium was full of excitement and cheers throughout his visit.
On Thursday and Friday, our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders enjoyed a poetry writing workshop with Andrew Green of Potato Hill Poetry. His sessions were engaging and encouraged students to discover a love for writing and poetry. This Enrichment program was due to the generosity of The Hooper Fund.
Today, our second grade students met with a herpetologist from the Rainforest Reptiles Show. The presentation included 4 animals; a land turtle, a black and white Tegu lizard, a boa constrictor and an American alligator. Each student was given the opportunity to touch Skittles, the American Alligator. He was a wiggly fellow! Our students appeared to love the experience.
Our Enrichment programming has finished for the 2022-2023 school year. We hope all the events were enjoyed by your children and that they came home, excited to share with you what they learned! Have a wonderful summer.
Best,
MMPTO Enrichment Committee

Health Room Headlines
Just a reminder that insect repellant and sunscreen are considered medications. The health room does not stock these items. Please spray and lather up before leaving the house. We recommend tick checks daily especially if playing in woods or tall grass. Please remember to send in water bottles daily (they get very thirsty during the day).
Just a few more reminders:
1. If your child is going to be absent or arriving late, please call either 526-1909 or 526-1908 to let us know.
2. If your child has a temperature of 100. F or over, they need to be temperature-free for 24 hours (without relying on Tylenol or Motrin) before re-entering the school.
3. If your child is experiencing diarrhea or vomiting, we recommend that they are symptom free for 24 hours and can tolerate solid food before they return
4. If your child has a contagious illness such as conjunctivitis or strep throat, it is the school policy that they are on medicine for 24 hours before re-entering the building.
5. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL CLASSROOMS ARE PEANUT/NUT FREE
6. PLEASE BE ADVISED LUNCHES CANNOT BE REHEATED IN THE CAFETERIA MICROWAVE DUE TO ALLERGIES AND CROSS CONTAMINATION.
Physicals: Not too late to send in physicals
5th-grade health records are being updated and reviewed for transfer to middle school. Please send updated physicals and immunization records so I may add to your child’s record before transfer.
Updated physicals and immunization records are due for grades one and four (an updated physical is not older than one year). Please do not make a new appointment. Just send me a copy of the physical when it is completed.
Extra Clothing: ALL GRADE LEVELS
Occasionally a spilled drink, a fall in a puddle or even a ride down a wet slide occurs, if each child could have a change of clothing (head to toe) that would be great. Thank you for your co-operation and continuing support.
Have a beautiful weekend!

Bike and Pedestrian Committee Survey
Subject: Survey for MBTS Bike & Pedestrian Committee
As part of our continued effort to serve the community the MBTS Bike & Pedestrian Committee would like to gather some basic information regarding the number of kids who walk and/or bike to school, as well as thoughts and concerns parents may have about how and why they do so.
The mission of the Manchester Bike & Pedestrian Committee is to make bicycling and walking, as non-motorized forms of transportation, safer and more accessible throughout the Town of Manchester-by-the-Sea. We have partnered with the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Program which works to increase safe biking and walking among elementary, middle, and high school students by using a collaborative, community-focused approach that bridges the gap between health and transportation.
Together, we prepared this survey to have a clearer idea of how we may serve those who bike/walk/roll to and from school. This survey is anonymous and will only take about 2-3 minutes. We appreciate your time.
