PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Roosevelt Parents/Guardians,
Up to this date students have earned over 2,800 new tigers roars stickers. This is an amazing achievement. This month we have set a goal for our students to earn 750 stickers, which is more than one sticker per student in the school.
When students are able to reach this goal they will earn a "hat" day at school.
Have a great day!
Dr. Dwyer, Principal

Calling all Vets
Dear Roosevelt Families,
We would like to invite Veterans to be a part of our IN PERSON Veteran’s Day observance at Roosevelt this year on Friday, November 10th.
We will have our guest Veterans arrive at Roosevelt School at 8:30 am to check in at the office and then provide some light breakfast treats. As we do not have a space for our whole school to meet for an assembly, we will host a digital introduction of our honored guests with a welcome, Pledge of Allegiance, and Roll Call. During Roll Call each Veteran will be able to share which branch of the military they were/are in and how many years they served.
To sign up please complete THIS Google Form to RSVP. Please complete this form if you are a Veteran attending in person. If you are unable to complete the Google Form feel free to call the school office and RSVP with our secretary Mrs. Ellsworth by phone at 847-813-4233.
The ongoing violence in Israel and Gaza is heart wrenching. Here are some helpful resources in navigating these conversations at home.
The National Association of School Psychologists has a downloadable flyer called Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Families and Educators, strategies for each grade level, and suggested talking points.
From Common Sense Media, an article called How do I talk to my kids about violence in the news? reminds us to get a sense of what children know before launching into an explanation, by using open-ended questions, like “What did you hear?” or “What do you know?” and “What do you think about it?”
New Report Card Process
Trimester 1 Report Cards
All trimester 1 report cards will be sent electronically for grades K-8 (no change for MS). These will be made available on the portal on Friday, December 1st (in the am).
K-5 Parent Newsletter Message:
All trimester 1 report cards will now be made available to view digitally this school year through the District’s parent portal! Instead of receiving a paper copy, parents will access their child’s report card at their own leisure and convenience. The trimester 1 report card will be available to view on December 1st at 8am.
After viewing online, you will be asked to digitally sign off that you have viewed your child’s report card. To be sure you can access this report card, please follow these directions for how to login. We hope this will allow parents better access to their child’s educational achievement.
If you would still like to request a paper copy or are unsure of how to login, please contact the main office secretary or building principal for assistance prior to December 1st.

Math Update
We are offering an exciting opportunity for all K-8 parents/guardians that pertains to our new mathematics curricula. On November 28th, at 7pm, at Emerson Middle School, we invite parents/guardians to engage in a lesson simulation with a D64 grade-level teacher.
You will sit in the seats as a student and fully understand what it means to be part of a math class with our new curriculum resources (Eureka Squared: K-5, and Carnegie Math (6-8))!
A teacher will offer a brief introduction to the program and then teach an actual lesson your child would experience this year. Space is limited, so please RSVP using this form. Be sure to click the appropriate math placement for your child.
If you are not sure of your child’s placement, please call your school’s main office. We look forward to seeing you there!
*Note: Students in 7th or 8th Grade Channels of Challenge or 8th Grade Accelerated Math are not utilizing the Carnegie resources. Therefore, this opportunity is not available right now for those parents/guardians.
Best,
Samantha Alaimo
Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning

Electronic Device Guidelines
Click the photo to the right for the direct link to the D64 Parent Handbook device policy (p. 24).
Parents can help ensure smartwatches are set to not allow notifications from other apps by placing the device in a mode that does more than silence it. For instance, with an Apple Watch, a parent can put the device in “Schooltime” mode, which limits how the student can use the watch during school. Schooltime mode also easily allows staff members to see that the watch is configured to not be a distraction during school. You can find steps on how to 24 set up Schooltime mode here. Android users can find parental controls by following these steps. Parents can configure wearable smart devices in other available ways as long as students cannot communicate with the device or use any apps during school.
