Edgewood's Tiger Talk
April 29th, 2022
We are committed to our journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Principal's Update
Teachers must attend to all the little things. One student is tired. Another is preoccupied with an argument they had with a friend. Another is worried about a tryout they have later today. None of these are directly related to what's being taught, but if a teacher doesn't address them, the children won't learn.
When you get to the content, each student is different. One comes in innately understanding math facts and wants to keep exploring harder concepts. Another needs to work with blocks for a lot longer until things click. Within one lesson, teachers must have multiple abilities and needs at the forefront of their minds. Studies have shown that the only people who make more decisions than teachers per minute are air traffic controllers.
Teaching IS hard, no matter how many years you've been at it. It's challenging, evolving, and never exactly the same. Our staff at Edgewood is outstanding, full of educators constantly working to improve their practice and meet the needs of every child. As we enter our Staff Appreciation Week, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for each of our staff members--our teachers, assistants, lunch ladies, counselors and specialists, custodial staff, and office staff. I also want to thank our EHSA and all the families that have and will contribute to make the week a well-deserved tribute to our hard-working, dedicated staff.
Teaching is a labor of love, and it's clear that our staff here loves what they do.
